Role Description

Protecting the organization against legal, financial, and reputational risks by providing timely, efficient, and solution-driven legal services.

The Legal Specialist, Commercial, provides legal services in a timely, efficient and solution-driven manner, thereby protecting the organization against legal, financial and reputational risks. They report to the Legal Advisor, Commercial, and exercise their accountabilities with the designated authority provided by the Legal Advisor, Commercial, in accordance with established instructions.

The Legal Specialist, Commercial, demonstrates a good understanding of the operational context in which UNOPS operates and is charged with contributing to an inclusive, high-performing team of commercial lawyers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Building and maintaining effective relationships with counterparts of country and regional offices, as well as HQ stakeholder functions.
• Working closely with other legal advisors, policy units, and specialized teams within UNOPS to ensure timely, accurate, and solution-oriented legal advice in connection with commercial matters.
• Undertaking additional responsibilities to prepare for more senior roles, such as supervising other team members or managing major matters or client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law or other disciplines with 7 years of relevant experience OR
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in any of the above disciplines with 5 years of relevant experience is required.

Requirements

• Relevant experience within a law firm or national or international organization as a commercial, international, or commercial dispute lawyer in legal analysis, advice, research, drafting of texts, or related fields.
• Experience in communicating complex legal concepts across a range of audiences is required.
