Role Description

Mary MacKillop Today is seeking a Director with skills in philanthropy and fundraising. The successful candidate will have demonstrated contemporary experience in philanthropy, encompassing:

• Fundraising strategy
• Donor engagement
• Marketing and communications

They will support and inform the Board’s efforts to:

• Grow its donor base
• Strengthen its brand presence
• Communicate its mission compellingly to diverse audiences

Experience in the not-for-profit sector is essential, and familiarity with international development and its funding landscape is highly regarded.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of a director’s responsibilities, including legal, ethical, fiduciary, and financial responsibilities
• Strategic expertise to review strategy through constructive questioning
• Experience in managing people and achieving change
• Professional/life skills in areas such as international aid, fundraising, financial investment, marketing, community development, and governance

Commitment Expectations

The Board currently meets 6 times a year for around 2.5 hours. Meetings are hybrid and held online through Microsoft Teams and in person in North Sydney on Thursdays from 4pm – 6:30pm. Additional committees include:

• Audit, Finance, and Risk Committee (meets 4 times per year)
• Safeguarding Committee (meets 30 minutes prior to every Board Meeting)
• Policy Committee (meets 3 times per year)

Directors are expected to lead and participate in personal and Board formation activities in accordance with the SOSJ Formation for Mission Framework.
