[Hiring] Junior AI Lawyer @Bird & Bird LLP

YDay - Bird & Bird LLP is hiring a remote Junior AI Lawyer. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: Europe

Role Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a practising lawyer who is passionate about the transformative potential of AI in legal services. This is not a purely legal, knowledge, or technology role. If you are energised by shaping a firm's legal technology direction and ensuring it stays ahead of a fast-moving market, this role is for you.

You will bring your legal expertise and technological skills to a team focused on embedding AI tools into the heart of how we work, how we effectively share our legal knowledge using our tools, and how we serve clients. You will be a credible voice internally and externally, capable of speaking the language of both the lawyer and the technologist.

You will be part of the LegalTech and AI Practice, which sits alongside the global LegalTech and Innovation team. Bird & Bird's LegalTech Team mission is to support the strong technology focus of the Firm, provide modern technology to support the business, and creative solutions for our Clients. Bird & Bird's LegalTech Team operates across 33 international offices, and this role reflects that global reach. Our primary hubs for this position are London and Frankfurt, though we welcome candidates based in other Bird & Bird locations.

Across whichever office you sit, you will work closely with colleagues internationally, engaging with practice groups, knowledge teams, and business services functions across the network. The LegalTech Product Lead is a new and distinct role within this team, sitting alongside the Business Applications team and focused specifically on ensuring the firm's technology portfolio functions as a coherent whole: well-connected, well-adapted, and continuously improving. We are a diverse, energised group focused on service, international collaboration, and contribution beyond IT delivery, both internally and externally. We seek people who are keen to engage across the network and make wider contributions than service and delivery alone.

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with at least one year's experience in private practice.
  • Demonstrable interest in and knowledge of AI and legal technology, including familiarity with AI-assisted legal tools and platforms such as Legora.
  • An aptitude for using technology and be highly computer literate, including strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and database software.
  • Knowledge and experience of how to use relational databases, content management systems, such as SharePoint Online, enterprise search, and AI functionality.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience of, or a clear aptitude for, project delivery, including requirements gathering, process mapping, testing, and training.
  • Comfortable facilitating workshops and training sessions for professional audiences.
  • Prior experience in a LegalTech, innovation, or knowledge management role within a law firm or legal team.
  • Experience with AI tools applied to legal workflows (e.g. contract review, due diligence, document drafting, or research).
  • Familiarity with client-facing technology platforms and portal products.
  • A solid understanding of metadata, taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs and how they can be used to classify and structure data.

Requirements

  • Act as one of the team's embedded LegalTech and AI specialists, with a deep understanding of AI tools, legal workflows/mapping, and the practical realities of fee earner adoption.
  • Work closely with the intranet's content editors on a day-to-day basis to ensure they are posting, editing, and tagging correctly.
  • Help to deliver LegalTech and Innovation projects, including trialling proposed new systems/features and providing feedback and suggestions.
  • Support the growth of quality precedents and know-how in the firm's central database.
  • Actively contribute to a culture that values and leverages the firm's responsible AI use.
  • Deliver statistical usage reports and analysis of the firm's knowledge systems.
  • Attend vendor user groups and supplier meetings.
  • Keep up to date with industry developments and new technologies.
  • Design engaging AI training sessions and workshops for fee earners.
  • Develop client-facing AI workshops, helping organisations explore use cases, refine processes, and build confidence in working with AI tools.
  • Act as a change agent within practice groups, helping teams identify new use cases and continuously improve how they deliver legal work.
  • Contribute to the development of internal training materials, playbooks, pitch materials, and best practice guidance.
  • Help grow a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous improvement within the team.

Benefits

  • Our agile approach to office and remote working enables you to find the right balance to deliver at your best.
  • Progress your career and personal development with our award-winning development programmes.
  • Equip yourself with a broad range of technical and business skills as well as a deep understanding of business issues through our skills-based curriculum.
  • Competitive, market-led salary and bonus structure.
  • Family-friendly policies as well as health schemes and wellbeing support.
  • A flexible benefits package which allows you to tailor your benefits to your current needs and lifestyle.
  • In addition to a competitive salary and benefits package, Bird & Bird operates two discretionary bonus schemes.
  • Performance-related bonus that reflects the contributions you make to the firm.
  • Winning Work Bonuses are paid in addition to the Performance Bonus.
