[Hiring] Compensation Consultant @H&R Block Management

2d ago - H&R Block Management is hiring a remote Compensation Consultant. 💸 Salary: $109,800 - $175,700 per year 📍Location: USA

Role Description

In this role, you’ll partner with Compensation leadership, People & Culture, and business leaders to develop and deliver compensation solutions aligned with our business strategy and evolving market practices. You’ll lead key compensation programs and complex, organization-wide projects, bringing strong critical thinking, project management, and cross-functional partnership to the work. You’ll be part of a collaborative team of compensation professionals, each owning key business relationships and programs, with opportunities to mentor and develop more junior team members.

This individual serves as the primary compensation partner (end-to-end) for certain major departments and provides support for the Board's Compensation Committee and senior executives. This includes leading the design, administration, governance, and ongoing support of the Company's executive compensation programs and Compensation Committee meetings.

The position oversees the administration of the Company's equity programs, including grants, vesting, dividends, reporting, and analysis. The role partners closely with Payroll, Accounting, Legal, and P&C Systems to ensure accurate administration of stock-based awards, support audits and reporting requirements, maintain the Company's stock ownership guidelines, and certain schedules for the proxy.

While the ideal candidate brings experience across compensation consulting, executive compensation, and stock plan administration, we recognize these skillsets do not always develop together. We welcome candidates with deep expertise in two or more of these areas and are willing to tailor specific responsibilities based on the successful candidate's background and strengths.

We are looking for a self-starter with a passion for continuous learning and professional development. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player, eager to share innovative ideas and tackle new challenges. A proactive mindset is essential to advance our compensation programming. You will thrive in a supportive environment, able to work under guidance while navigating through ambiguity.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Serve as the compensation lead in support of the Compensation Committee. Develop analyses, recommendations, presentations, and supporting materials for Compensation Committee meetings and executive compensation decisions. (30%)
  • Expertly advise and consult with leadership (and the P&C team) on internal and external pay recommendations including those with job or team structure changes. Advise on job structure and creation as well as pricing individual jobs in the appropriate labor market. (20%)
  • Administer equity plans for US and global employees by working closely with legal, finance, and payroll teams. This includes grants, vests, forfeitures/prorations. The position maintains our equity platform (through Fidelity PSW), executes transactions, and provides relevant reporting. (20%)
  • Lead the design and administration of compensation programs and strategies that attract, retain, and motivate associates and executives while supporting evolving business objectives. Evaluate programs and advocate for enhancements and evolution to improve their effectiveness. Includes the development of the communication and education strategy for both core and emerging compensation programs. (10%)
  • Assist and/or administer monthly, quarterly, and year-end processes, including maintaining blackout periods, schedules for proxy, and statutory reporting related to the company's equity plans and stock-based compensation. (10%)
  • Serve as a lead resource on special projects or areas of practice. (10%)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related area or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in compensation design and administration including program evaluation, analysis, implementation, and business consulting/client interaction
  • An analytical mind with top-notch MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and especially Excel
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience leading / coordinating highly impactful, enterprise-wide programs or projects
  • Experience presenting to executive-level stakeholders
  • Strong project management and finance skills, with ability to successfully manage multiple projects to established deadlines
  • Expert-level understanding of market surveys, benchmarking practices, and tools (BetterComp, Market Pay, etc.)
  • Excellent understanding of compensation job structures
