Role Description

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving strategic business growth in the data center, telecom, and cable industries by:

• Developing executive-level client relationships
• Identifying complex business opportunities
• Leading consultative sales efforts for Willdan Energy Solutions' energy, engineering, and sustainability solutions

This role manages the full business development lifecycle, including:

• Market development
• Opportunity qualification
• Solution development
• Proposal strategy
• Negotiations
• Contract execution

As a trusted advisor, the Mission-Critical Business Development Manager partners closely with:

• Engineering
• Project management
• Operations teams

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and executing strategic business development plans
• Cultivating long-term relationships with decision-makers
• Leading consultative sales engagements
• Managing the complete sales lifecycle
• Collaborating with internal teams to develop proposals
• Coordinating internal project development resources
• Maintaining an accurate sales pipeline
• Analyzing market trends and competitive activity
• Serving as the client's advocate
• Mentoring less experienced business development professionals

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related discipline required
• 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in consultative business development, strategic sales, account management, or related client-facing roles in mission critical environments
• 5+ years of business development in mission-critical industries including data centers, telecom, and cable
• Applicable understanding of key metrics such as PUE, equipment efficiency calculations, and airflow measures impacting hotspots
• Demonstrated success in developing new business opportunities and managing complex sales pursuits
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and written communication skills
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
• Experience within the energy, engineering, construction, infrastructure, facilities, sustainability, or professional services industries preferred
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex pursuits simultaneously
• Ability to travel as needed
