Role Description

At Cactus Communications, you can work among several highly skilled copyeditors who are experts in various academic fields. We’re currently looking for Copyediting Reviewers on a work-from-home basis. This would be a contractual agreement, and renewable upon mutual consent. Work will be available regularly so that you can maintain a predictable schedule.

Job Responsibilities

• Review manuscripts copy-edited by other editors to ensure that the edit meets the journal's language and style requirements:
• Critically assess the quality of edits performed by other editors to confirm alignment with journal expectations.
• Provide constructive feedback, flag inconsistencies or errors, and perform corrective edits where required to meet quality benchmarks.
• Perform in-depth language editing to ensure manuscripts are written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct scientific English, while maintaining the original meaning and scientific accuracy intended by the author.
• Make changes to ensure that the manuscript conforms to the journal's style requirements:
• Apply journal- or publisher-specific guidelines related to formatting, structure, terminology, and referencing.
• Ensure uniformity and consistency in style across all manuscript sections, including text, tables, figures, and supplementary material.
• Share feedback with editors to support continuous improvement:
• Offer constructive, actionable feedback to editors on their work, highlighting strengths and suggesting specific areas for improvement.
• Engage in knowledge-sharing to help editors refine their skills, align better with journal expectations, and grow professionally.

Qualifications

• A degree (min. bachelors) in Medicine and Life Sciences
• Experience in academic editing/copyediting (mandatory)
• Proficiency in using MS Word, specifically, Track Changes and styling options.
• Familiarity with the AMA style guide (preferred)
