[Hiring] Director of Technical Programs @Trekai

3d ago - Trekai is hiring a remote Director of Technical Programs. πŸ’Έ Salary: 150000-180000 per year πŸ“Location: USA

Role Description

We're looking for Technical Program Director to own engineering planning and management across engineering and contractor work-streams. This role reports to the CTO and will work with the Director of AI Products and the CPO. You will participate in architecture and engineering of TrekAI and lead the engineers who build it. You will help set technical direction, build proofs-of-concept, develop infrastructure-as-code, guide deployment pipelines, and grow a high-performing engineering team while driving execution alongside product and executive leadership.

  • Lead and grow a team of platform, infrastructure, and backend engineers; set technical standards, review designs, and drive delivery.
  • Own the technical roadmap and translate business goals into architecture and execution plans.
  • Establish engineering best practices β€” code review, testing, observability, on-call, and incident response.
  • Partner with executive leadership on hiring, planning, and cross-team technical decisions.
  • Drive execution across engineering, product, and contractor teams, owning schedules, dependencies, risks, and delivery milestones.
  • Translate priorities into execution plans with clear milestones, owners, and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, blockers, and decisions across concurrent initiatives.
  • Stay close enough to technical details to understand scope, dependencies, tradeoffs, and risks, and know when to escalate.
  • Coordinate across contractor and engineering teams, holding teams accountable for delivery quality and surfacing performance gaps.
  • Maintain visibility into deliverables, status, progress, spend, and resource allocation across work-streams.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years designing and building distributed systems with direct IaC experience, including 5+ years leading, mentoring, or acting as tech lead for engineering teams.
  • Strong experience driving complex, multi-team initiatives across internal and contractor teams, in an engineering context (5+ years of direct or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with Kubernetes, virtual machines, service meshes, serverless computing patterns, and cloud networking.
  • Familiarity with modular, scalable microservices architectures.
  • Skilled in secure cloud architecture, identity and access management, encryption strategies, and compliance-by-design.
  • Excellent communicator and technical leader who can align engineers, ML scientists, and product teams and translate requirements into scalable design.
  • Exceptionally organized and operationally strong, with systems that make work visible and keep people accountable.
  • Technical fluency. You can follow engineering conversations well enough to track scope, dependencies, risks, and decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable using AI development tools like Claude Code or Codex.
  • Maintain clear boundaries between core IP, third-party components, and open-source dependencies.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Education domain.
  • Experience with data privacy compliance in sensitive domains (e.g., COPPA, FERPA, GDPR).

Location

  • Atlanta, GA based preferred.
  • Open to remote candidates working in the Eastern time zone, with occasional travel for planning sessions and team collaboration.

Benefits

  • Mission-Driven: We're building educational technology the right wayβ€”transparent, ethical, and focused on empowering educators rather than replacing them.
  • Technical Excellence: Work with a team that cares about doing things properly, from database design to security implementation.
  • Real Impact: Your coordination will directly shape how a multi-platform product comes together to serve teachers and students across multiple school districts.
  • Autonomy: We trust you to own your domain and make decisions.
  • Growth: We're a growing company with room to expand your role and responsibilities.
  • Salary & Benefits: Trek offers competitive benefits and salary commensurate with the role such as paid time off (including flex holidays), professional development and growth opportunities, and an amazing collaborative/supportive culture.

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • No need for visa sponsorship current or in the future.
