[Hiring] Vice President, Commercial and Product Counsel @b.well

Role Description

We’re seeking a Vice President, Commercial and Product Counsel to be one of b.well’s senior in-house transactional and product lawyers. You’ll advise across the company’s entire portfolio, with a primary focus on our Commercial, Strategic Partnership, Client Success, and Product teams.

• Negotiate and structure complex customer, partner, and data-sharing agreements.
• Counsel product teams on privacy, data rights, consent, and AI from design through launch.
• Build health data interoperability, governance, and privacy requirements into how b.well sells, delivers, and builds.
• Report to the Chief Privacy and Regulatory Officer.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 12+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house or law firm transactional work for healthcare or health IT companies.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating complex technology, SaaS, data-sharing, and platform agreements with health systems, payers, or other regulated healthcare customers.
• Experience counseling product and engineering teams on regulated, data-driven products.
• Experience leading or mentoring lawyers or managing outside counsel.
• Strong working knowledge of health data interoperability: HIPAA, the 21st Century Cures Act, and state health privacy laws.
• Excellent judgment, with the ability to assess and communicate risk in business terms.
• Clear, concise written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
• A collaborative, sleeves-rolled-up mindset and comfort in a fast-paced, ambiguous growth-stage environment.

Requirements

• Experience with FHIR (R4), USCDI, SMART on FHIR, TEFCA, CARIN Blue Button, or comparable standards.
• Familiarity with ASTP/ONC, CMS, OCR, and FTC authorities.
• Experience at a consumer-facing digital health, health IT, payer, or health information network organization.
• Experience writing terms of service and privacy policies and advising on AI governance.
• Startup or growth-stage experience, including building legal functions and processes from the ground up.
• Passion for making healthcare simpler for consumers.

• Target salary range: $250,000 - $290,000.
