Role Description

The Senior Counsel provides a full range of legal advice and services, working on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial. The Senior Counsel typically acts as a legal generalist or provides counsel in a combination of disciplines.

• Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance.
• Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, working under minimal supervision.
• Focuses on supporting Humana’s senior-focused primary care operations and merger & acquisition activity.
• Provides guidance related to the application of fraud, waste, and abuse laws, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, and the Beneficiary Inducement Statute as applied to CenterWell Primary Care delivery and operations.
• Assists with health care regulatory diligence for potential merger & acquisition activity and coordinates legal issues during post-closing integration.
• Collaborates and consults with leaders throughout the company to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and protection against external risk.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
• 5 - 10 years of relevant experience.
• Active membership in a state bar association.
• Strong legal writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and in team settings.
• Passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.
• Experience in Medicare, Medicaid, or similar regulatory work.

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage.
• Demonstrated knowledge of health care provider operations.
• Merger & acquisition experience.
• Familiarity with Medicare risk adjustment as well as related billing and coding requirements.

Additional Information

• Work at Home Requirements: Minimum download speed of 25 Mbps and upload speed of 10 Mbps required; wireless, wired cable, or DSL connection suggested.
• Occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.
• Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40.
• Pay Range: $168,000 - $231,000 per year, eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on performance.
