Role Description
ezCater seeks an experienced, highly motivated, creative and strategic legal professional to join its growing in-house legal team. You will report directly to the Vice President & Assistant General Counsel for Litigation, Insurance & Compliance and be responsible for developing effective, practical, risk-balanced advice to key cross-functional stakeholders across the business on a variety of issues.

Litigation & Controversy
- Development of legal defense strategies in a variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters from inception through discovery and successful outcome.
- Identification and management of selected outside counsel where appropriate.
- Lead on resolving matters without the assistance of outside counsel where possible and prudent.
- Oversight of tracking and reporting all dispute and pre-dispute data, spend and outcomes.
- Manage relationships with insurance carriers and claims adjusters on covered claims.
- Lead the development of internal processes to quickly identify and ensure escalation of significant issues or complaints that could risk ezCater’s brand or reputation.
- Create a playbook for internal response, diffusion and tracking of significant issues.
- Develop and deliver training for internal stakeholders on escalation processes and requirements.
- Management of the company’s legally required document preservation practices.
- Develop training for information partners internally to ensure data preservation.
- Collaborate with ezCater’s internal security and information technology partners to drive development of mature data governance practices.

Compliance
- Advise ezCater’s People team on all legal aspects of employment, compensation and benefits practices.
- Lead compliance efforts around ezCater’s data privacy and security practices.
- Develop policies, related customer communications and disclosures.
- Ensure the Company develops and adheres to best practices for auditing compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Monitor the developing field of Artificial Intelligence and compliance requirements at state and federal levels.
- Ongoing identification of regulations or regulatory trends and evaluate their applicability to ezCater’s business.
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls, policies, procedures, and trainings to support compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years combined experience in-house or at a well-established law firm.
- Significant time devoted to advising on employment related issues in an in-house capacity.
- Prior experience or eagerness to gain experience advising on data privacy and security.
- Prior experience at a technology-first company or online marketplace is beneficial.
- Confidence in your ability coupled with humility essential to ask questions and partner with business leaders.
- Member in good standing of at least one state bar.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent work ethic and attention to detail.
- Curious, energetic problem solver, and a true team player.
Requirements
- Proven track record of successful outcomes in leading litigation matters from inception through resolution.
- Experience in advising on internal disputes, wage & hour requirements and development of HR policies.
- Experience in building compliant processes for collecting and managing data.
- Ability to draft data governance policies and audit adherence to the same.
