Role Description
The foundation is seeking a Legal Associate to assist the General Counsel in providing critical legal guidance across various initiatives, including the grants program, governance processes, and marketing efforts. As the second member of the legal team, the Legal Associate will be pivotal in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape while enabling the foundation to contribute to the community’s growth, decentralization, and sustainability.
- Handle a portfolio of grants, contracts, marketing materials, and other collateral documents in collaboration with outside counsel.
- Anticipate and address legal, business, and regulatory challenges within the DeFi space, recommending solutions to mitigate risks and pursue opportunities that align with the foundation's mission.
- Review external communications to ensure alignment with foundation objectives and regulatory compliance.
- Provide risk-based legal, regulatory, and strategic advice to the General Counsel and communicate to executives, grantees, marketing teams, and more.
- Review and structure grant agreements for the grant programs.
- Monitor communications and deliverables from grantees to ensure compliance with the foundation’s guidelines, expectations, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist the General Counsel in executing the foundation's broad legal and policy strategy.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; member of a U.S. state bar in good standing.
- 2–5 years of legal practice experience with a strong focus on corporate law, contract law, marketing guidelines, IP law, Securities and Commodities law, and a base understanding of broad financial regulation requirements.
- Understanding of 501(c)4 organization structure and requisite reporting and record-keeping associated therewith.
- Familiarity with U.S. financial regulatory frameworks as they apply to decentralized exchanges and DeFi protocols.
- Demonstrated experience advising on web3 and crypto matters, particularly within the DeFi ecosystem.
- Understanding of protocol mechanics and governance structure.
- Impeccable attention to detail and commitment to advancing decentralized finance.
