Role Description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced Mechanical CAD professionals with strong expertise in mechanical engineering, aerospace, industrial design, and complex multi-part assembly analysis to contribute to an advanced AI training project focused on engineering design interpretation.

Selected professionals will:

• Analyse detailed mechanical assemblies
• Interpret native CAD files and engineering drawings
• Develop precise question-and-answer content grounded in real-world engineering data
• Produce objective, assessment-ready technical material

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Assembly Analysis
  • Analyse complex multi-part mechanical assemblies provided in native FreeCAD format
  • Interpret component relationships, interfaces, geometry, and overall assembly design intent
  • Review engineering drawings and supporting technical information
  • Identify key mechanical functions, design considerations, and dimensional relationships
  • Apply sound engineering judgement when evaluating assembly behaviour and technical details
• Technical Question Development
  • Develop objective, precise, and non-guessable question-and-answer sets for assigned assemblies
  • Create several detailed technical questions covering mechanical functions, design rationale, and dimensional considerations
  • Ensure each question is grounded in verifiable assembly data
  • Structure prompts so that answers are technically specific and unambiguous
  • Maintain alignment with real-world engineering standards and terminology
• Answer Authoring & Technical Validation
  • Produce accurate and clearly written answers supported by the source assembly data
  • Verify technical conclusions against CAD geometry, drawings, and component relationships
  • Review question-and-answer pairs for logical consistency and technical correctness
  • Identify and clarify ambiguities before finalising deliverables
  • Maintain high standards for objectivity, precision, and assessment readiness
• Documentation & Remote Collaboration
  • Prepare clear technical documentation and supporting notes where required
  • Communicate promptly with project coordinators regarding questions, ambiguities, or technical issues
  • Use written and verbal communication to clarify engineering requirements
  • Incorporate feedback and adapt deliverables to evolving project standards
  • Manage assigned work independently while maintaining agreed timelines and quality expectations

Qualifications

• Proven background in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, industrial design, or a closely related discipline
• Strong foundational and applied knowledge of CAD systems and engineering design principles
• Expertise in analysing complex mechanical assemblies and interpreting engineering drawings
• Familiarity with FreeCAD is advantageous
• Experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, or comparable CAD platforms is highly relevant
• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, precise, and objective technical documentation or assessment materials
• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to explain technical insights clearly to varied audiences
• Comfortable working independently and managing deliverables in a remote environment
• Strong commitment to technical accuracy, consistency, and objective assessment

Engagement Details

• Part-time independent contractor engagement
• Fully remote
• Compensation: $40–$80/hour
• Work will involve mechanical assembly analysis, engineering drawing interpretation, technical question authoring, answer development, and documentation
• Experience with complex CAD assemblies and technical design interpretation is important for this engagement
• Familiarity with FreeCAD is beneficial, while experience with other major CAD platforms is also relevant
• Project scope, workload, timing, and duration may evolve depending on project requirements
• Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
