Role Description

The WisTech Open Librarian supports the efforts of open educational resources (OER) across the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). This position may be based anywhere within the state of Wisconsin to support the OER initiatives of the WTCS. Depending on the candidateโ€™s location, the role has the potential to be fully remote, with minimal travel required for essential in-person meetings.

The WisTech Open Librarian plays a pivotal role in supporting the development, accessibility, and dissemination of Open Educational Resources (OER) through collaboration with the WisTech Open project team, editors, subject matter experts (SMEs), and faculty developers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with WisTech Open project team, editors, SMEs, and faculty developers to successfully deliver OER funded creation projects.
  • Research and harvest existing OER or content in the public domain for faculty and SMEs.
  • Meet with SMEs and faculty developers regularly to understand resource and content needs.
  • Collaborate with learning designer consultant to ensure content is accessible and meets universal design for learning (UDL) guidelines.
  • Provide backup support to transpose originally created content into Pressbooks, ensuring usability and accessibility.
  • Ensure that copyright and fair use standards are respected according to federal regulations; Review and create citations, attributions, references, etc. for all projects.
  • Assign appropriate Creative Commons licenses to finished projects.
  • Share published content in the institutional repository, WISELearn, WTCS OER index, and/or Pressbooks directory.
  • Facilitate OER training courses for faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Initiate, plan, and develop tutorials and supporting instructional materials for specific library resources, OER, copyright, citations, etc.
  • Consult and support WTCS colleges in curating content, open licensing, and training.
  • Attend weekly team, 1/1s, or other meetings as required.

Qualifications

  • Masterโ€™s degree in Library and Information Sciences, or equivalent from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience working with open educational resources.
  • Experience with or knowledge of copyright, writing, or publishing, preferred.
