Role Description
Mature and promote the Air Design throughout the organization.
-
Imagine opportunities and proactively seize them to continually raise the maturity, awareness, and adoption of our design system across the business.
-
Expand the scope of the platforms we support, educate teams about Air's value and integration, and ensure the infrastructure is usable, accessible, and secure.
Build the foundation for an AI-native design system.
-
Help define how Air should work in an AI-native world, where interfaces are increasingly conversational, agentic, and adaptive.
-
Translate Air's design principles, development standards, and product knowledge into systems that live in both design and code.
-
Evolve our tokens, component library, documentation, and guidelines into foundational infrastructure that designers, engineers, AI coding tools, and AI agents can reliably build on.
Own the bridge between design and code.
-
Build systems that connect Figma to production and keep design and code evolving together.
-
Work directly in the codebase to build reusable, accessible, flexible, and performant components across React, React Native, and Qt/QML.
-
Contribute production code and PRs, review implementations, improve component APIs and architecture, and help product teams adopt Air without sacrificing quality or consistency.
Build the tools and workflows that make teams faster.
-
Build the workflows, tools, and infrastructure that allow designers and product teams to prototype at high fidelity using real components, working code, and interactive states to close traditional efficiency gaps between Design & Engineering.
-
Explore and implement AI-powered tooling, MCP integrations, Figma plugins, automation, and design-to-code workflows that improve how the business designs, builds, documents, and maintains products.
Set and raise the craft bar.
-
Establish what great looks like through the quality of what you build and ship.
-
Champion accessibility, visual quality, interaction quality, and consistency across Air.
-
Help improve standards around component APIs, tokens, naming, documentation, versioning, and adoption while partnering across Design and Engineering to continuously raise the quality of products.
What success looks like:
-
Air becomes a reliable foundation for both people and AI; designers, engineers, and AI tools can discover, understand, and use the system confidently.
-
Design and code stay closely aligned; components, tokens, and patterns evolve together, reducing the gap between what's designed and what ships.
-
Teams move faster without sacrificing quality; designers can prototype with real components and engineers spend less time on UI rework and one-off solutions.
-
Design-to-development workflows become increasingly automated and intelligent; AI, MCP, and plugins reduce friction and preserve design intent throughout the process.
-
Air scales beyond the Design System team; product teams can confidently adopt, extend, and contribute to the system with less dependency on centralized support.
-
Air raises the quality of products; experiences are cohesive, accessible, expressive, and thoughtfully crafted across platforms.
Qualifications
-
4-6 years in design engineering or UX engineering experience, preferably in B2B, enterprise, SaaS, or technical product environments.
-
Deep fluency in Figma and how modern design teams build and maintain systems with variables, auto layout, prototyping, dev mode, and Code Connect.
-
Strong proficiency with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, with a deep understanding of component architecture and reusable UI systems.
-
Strong understanding of accessible component design and development, including WCAG, semantic HTML, keyboard interaction, focus management, and ARIA patterns.
-
Fluency in AI-assisted workflows: canvas-to-code, code-to-canvas, AI prototyping tools, MCP integrations, and what's emerging in this space.
-
Experience with modern design and development tooling (e.g. Storybook, AI coding tools, Git, and component documentation platforms).
-
A track record of working across design and engineering: you engage in design discussions, you care deeply about design intent, and you champion getting intent translated into production.
-
Comfortable operating with high autonomy: you set direction, influence standards, and manage complex projects without a lot of hand-holding.
-
Strong design sensibility: you care about craft, consistency, and coherence.
Requirements
-
Familiarity with Material UI (MUI), including component architecture, theming, and customization.
-
Hands-on experience with React required; experience with React Native and/or QT/QML is a strong plus.
-
Experience with accessibility: WCAG 2.2, ARIA patterns, semantic HTML, APCA, accessible data viz.
-
Experience designing or building data visualizations.
-
Experience with embedded or hardware-constrained UI development.
-
Experience with visual regression testing, automated a11y testing, or CI/CD pipelines for component libraries.
Benefits
-
Medical, dental & vision.
-
Critical Illness, Accident, and Hospital.
-
401(k) Retirement Plan - Pre-tax and Roth post-tax contributions available.
-
Life Insurance (Voluntary Life & AD&D for the employee and dependents).
-
Short and long-term disability.
-
Health Spending Account (HSA).
-
Transportation benefits.
-
Employee Assistance Program.
-
Time Off/Leave (PTO, Vacation or Sick Leave).
