Role Description

African Collaborative is hiring a Director, Development & Partnerships. As Director, you will provide the strategic and operational leadership to help us scale. You will shape and execute a fundraising strategy that advances our financial goals and helps shift how funders see and invest in African-led organizations.

• Steer vision for the fundraising department and own departmental goals.
• Serve as a thought partner to the Co-CEOs to translate fundraising strategy into actionable plans.
• Lead, build, and grow the fundraising team.
• Manage relationships with contracted fundraising service providers.
• Direct the team to design and implement the right systems for efficient operations.
• Build the right mix of in-house staff and outside consultants.
• Build a framework for evaluating and qualifying major-gift prospects.
• Design the strategy and cultivation plan for priority prospects.
• Oversee pipeline cultivation to ensure highest potential leads are elevated to Co-CEOs.
• Streamline systems for prospect research and relationship management.
• Guide the strategy and narrative for grant proposals and reports.
• Lead business development to diversify and grow the organization's funding base.
• Manage portfolio of funder relationships, cultivating their commitment to AC’s mission.
• Identify and shape AC’s overarching revenue pathways.
• Own the forecasting and reporting against pipeline and revenue targets.
• Stay well-plugged into the funding sector for insights that inform our strategy.
• Collaborate with the Advocacy & Strategy team on speaking and writing opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience securing multi-million-dollar individual grants or gifts.
• Strong strategic thinking and experience translating fundraising goals into actionable plans.
• At least 10 years of progressive fundraising/development experience.
• Track record of proactively building and cultivating a strong pipeline of prospects.
• Exceptional project management skills.
• Strong emotional intelligence in fundraising and relationship-building.
• Experience building and managing strong fundraising teams.
• Effective people management skills.
• Experience building efficient fundraising systems.
• Strong existing relationships in the philanthropic sector.
• Exceptional communication skills and world-class responsiveness.
• Ability to navigate a rapidly changing philanthropic environment.
• Experience collaborating across timezones.
• Excitement to contribute to thought leadership through speaking and writing.

Requirements

• Comfortable challenging traditional power dynamics in the philanthropic sector.
• Ability to represent the organization externally at relevant sector convenings and events.
