Role Description

As Director, Nonprofit Strategy & Organizational Growth - Southwest, you will serve as a trusted advisor to Chief Professional Officers, Boards of Directors, and volunteer leaders across an assigned portfolio of Boys & Girls Clubs. You'll partner with leaders to understand their organizations and communities, identify the opportunities that matter most, and develop strategies that strengthen organizational performance, sustainability, and mission impact.

This is not a traditional organizational development role. It is an opportunity to bring your experience as a nonprofit leader, strategist, coach, and problem solver to organizations operating in very different environments, from rural communities and organizations navigating financial constraints to rapidly growing markets with significant opportunities to expand their reach.

You'll have considerable autonomy in how you manage your portfolio, coupled with access to expertise and resources across BGCA. Success requires someone who can earn trust, navigate complexity, make sense of competing priorities, and help leaders turn strategy into action.

Responsibilities

• Strengthening Leadership, Governance, and Organizational Capacity:
  • Advise CEOs and Boards
  • Build trusted relationships with Chief Professional Officers, Board Presidents, and other organizational leaders.
  • Coach and advise Chief Professional Officers on organizational strategy, leadership, performance, and sustainability.
  • Partner with Boards of Directors to strengthen governance, board effectiveness, leadership continuity, and organizational capacity.
  • Help Boards navigate executive leadership transitions.
  • Assess organizational and board capacity and develop strategies to address opportunities and gaps.
  • Establish strong partnerships with new Chief Professional Officers and Board Presidents.
• Own and Advance a Portfolio of Markets:
  • Develop a deep understanding of the organizations and markets within your portfolio.
  • Identify high-priority organizations and markets for focused partnership.
  • Work independently to develop strategies and service plans.
  • Use organizational, community, and performance data to identify trends and establish priorities.
  • Help Club leaders translate opportunities for growth into focused, actionable strategies.
  • Serve as the primary relationship and connection point between assigned member organizations and BGCA.
• Strengthen Organizational Capacity:
  • Provide consultation in strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, governance, leadership development, and operational sustainability.
  • Help organizations strengthen resource development strategies.
  • Partner with leaders to assess financial and organizational risks.
  • Support the development of leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitate board development and transformation strategies.
  • Connect organizations with BGCA subject matter experts and resources.
• Drive Strategic Growth & Mission Impact:
  • Partner with organizations to identify opportunities to increase youth served.
  • Help leaders use data to understand their communities and develop strategies for greater impact.
  • Support communities in establishing new, sustainable Boys & Girls Club sites.
  • Help organizations develop outcome-driven Club experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen community partnerships.
• Champion Child & Club Safety:
  • Promote BGCA Child & Club Safety priorities, standards, and resources.
  • Support the delivery of risk assessments, safety audits, training, and resources.
  • Conduct Child & Club Safety assessments as required.
  • Monitor progress against organization-specific remediation plans.
  • Respond promptly to Child Safety situations when requested.
• Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in state, regional, and national meetings and conferences.
  • Conduct annual face-to-face organizational visits.
  • Support additional regional and organizational initiatives as assigned.
  • Demonstrate BGCA's mission-driven values of integrity, excellence, and inclusion.
  • Adhere to BGCA policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Experience as a nonprofit leader, strategist, coach, and problem solver.
• Experience in executive leadership roles such as CEO, Chief Professional Officer, Executive Director, COO, CFO, or similar.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, social services, or a related field.
• At least five years of management, administration, or operational leadership experience within a nonprofit or similar organization.
• Demonstrated experience partnering with executive leaders and Boards of Directors.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned region.
• Ideal candidate will reside in Texas and cover Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming.

Travel

This role requires significant travel across the assigned region, estimated at 60–70%. Depending on business and market needs, travel may reach 12–14 or more days per month and may include weekends.

Compensation

The starting salary for this role is $125,000. BGCA takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training and experience, as well as the position’s scope and complexity when establishing a salary level.
