[Hiring] Traditional Chinese Localization Translator @Duolingo

Role Description

We are looking for a translator/proofreader with native-level proficiency in written Traditional Chinese and full professional fluency in English to create the best possible user experience for Traditional Chinese users through high-quality translation and localization. This is a contract role that can be based anywhere in the world.

• Localize all marketing and product copies, ensuring they are accurate, charismatic, and reflect Duolingo's style guide and requirements.
• Attend meetings/consult with fellow team members to discuss translations and align on style, tone, and vocabulary.
• Contribute to the development of in-house style guides for Traditional Chinese.
• Conduct QA on the live app to ensure that original content is not only correct and understandable for the Traditional Chinese audience, but also engaging and compelling.

Qualifications

• Native-level proficiency in written Traditional Chinese and full professional fluency in English.
• 3+ years of experience in translating, transcreation, proofreading, and/or copywriting for a Traditional Chinese audience.
• Experience localizing online, mobile, and/or game products.
• Ability to evaluate TTS audio in native language with a skilled ear to report on quality, including details such as nuances in accents.
• Desire to learn how to edit and triage TTS in native language for output across in-app and marketing content.
• Experience reviewing, annotating, and refining Large Language Model (LLM) outputs for linguistic accuracy, tone, cultural nuance, and factual correctness is strongly preferred.
• A portfolio of past work to demonstrate your expertise.
• Strong interest in Duolingo and our mission.
• Ability to work 25-30 hrs/week (workload may vary from week to week).
