[Hiring] Technical Writer @Tailscale

Role Description

We are looking for a Technical Writer to join our Documentation team to help us create and deliver world-class product documentation, tutorials, conceptual guides, and examples that help networking and security professionals and software engineers understand when, why, and how to use Tailscale's products and features.

• Produce, test, and maintain quality, consistent, contextualized, and technically accurate documentation for our products.
• Develop how-to guides, conceptual topics, reference guides, tutorials, and other technical content.
• Write content for a diverse audience including software developers, infrastructure engineers, security practitioners, and decision-makers.
• Update and refine existing content to reflect changes to the product and feedback from training sessions, surveys, and collected metrics.
• Build strong relationships as you collaborate with subject-matter experts, product managers, and your team.
• Collaborate with other content creators to ensure alignment with the organization's goals and strategies.
• Engage our community of users through active participation in our community spaces.
• Support engineers and other subject-matter experts in improving their writing through guidance and content reviews.
• Contribute to information architecture and platform improvements to help customers find answers faster.
• Become an expert in Tailscale's features and products, understanding our customer's needs and pain points.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of professional technical writing and editing experience.
• Experience creating high-quality, code-heavy product documentation and how-to guides.
• Technically proficient with hands-on experience in networking or security products.
• Comfortable with Git, GitHub, Markdown, and the command-line interface.
• Strong editing skills to guide others through the outlining and writing process.
• Able to drive multiple projects from beginning to completion.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Excited to learn new technologies and grow skills with a team of professional writers.
• Interested in how LLMs and automation can help writers produce and maintain content.

Requirements

• Software development experience (nice to have).
• Contributed to open-source software projects or communities (nice to have).
