Role Description
Cactus Life Sciences partners with global biopharma to drive innovation and improve patient outcomes through agile, science-driven medical communications β transforming complex data into actionable insights. As a growing scientific communications agency, we are seeking a driven leader to take on this pivotal role that spearheads the training and development of budding writers transitioning into medical communications.

Train and prepare new writers with no prior medical communications experience to work in a high-performance team via an intensive onboarding program aimed at developing both core writing and soft skills necessary to be successful as a scientific writer in a fast-paced agency.

Help trainees understand client needs and expectations from agency medical writers to facilitate their transition from academia to a career in medical communications.

Review and provide detailed feedback on writing different types of publications and/or medcomms deliverables.

Ensure trainees complete the onboarding training program (internal and external) in a timely manner while meeting training benchmarks.

Ongoing skill development for the writing team based on client and internal reviewer feedback and evolving industry and business needs.

Translate client feedback to training requirements.

Plan and execute annual training programmes, develop and refresh content to equip the team for new project types.

Train new reviewers and quality managers.

Develop training content and deliver webinars for pharma medical affairs teams and sales force based on sponsor requirements.

Support career progression plans through skill building.

Support client stakeholders in driving quality management activities and programs.
Qualifications

MD/PhD or similar advanced degree; ISMPP CMPPTM certification or willingness to undergo certification.

At least 5+ years of core writing experience in medical communications and publications within a pharmaceutical company or medical communications agency.

Reviewing expertise across therapy areas and document types.

Strong editorial skills with a keen eye for detail and exceptional time management skills.

Demonstrated experience and strong interest in training and coaching trainee scientific writers to successfully transition from academic research or clinical fields into a career in medical communications.

Entrepreneurial mindset to identify and address evolving people development needs independently.

Ability to use a healthy mix of nurturing feedback and hard metrics to drive training outcomes as well as providing clear critical developmental feedback when needed.

Excellent spoken and written English.

Very strong quality focus in all aspects of work; experience with managing team quality will be a bonus.

Deep understanding of all aspects of medical communications and current with industry developments.

Experience in developing training curricula, instructional design, or e-learning content will be an added advantage.

Ability to work effectively with cross-culture teams spread across different time zones.
