Role Description

Dexerto is looking for talented freelance writers to work weekend shifts (9-5 or 2-10pm). These positions are suitable for entry-level journalists and students with a passion for pop culture and writing.

• Source and write compelling stories about a variety of subjects, including big gaming franchises, viral news, content creators, TV, and Movies.
• Gain experience while at university or in your first role in journalism.
• Broad knowledge of pop culture is essential.
• Experience in writing is advantageous, but talent is more important.
• Demonstrate writing skills, knowledge, and passion.
• Basic knowledge of SEO and social media is desirable.
• Publish work on Twitter and Facebook.
• Basic Photoshop skills are also desirable.

Qualifications

• Understanding and knowledge of esports, gaming, and online culture.
• A snappy and compelling writing style.
• Able to write to short deadlines under pressure.
• Keen attention to detail – can spot grammatical errors and fact-check.
• Creative ability – able to think of feature ideas and suggest news stories that will resonate with our audience.
• Able to act independently on writing tasks.
• Confident with social media.
• SEO knowledge desirable but not essential.
• Experience with content management systems is desirable.
• Able to work at weekends (16 hours) without other education or job commitments.
• Committed to good time management.
• Personable with good communication skills.
