[Hiring] Creative Writer Consultant @Amazon Frontlines

Role Description

The Creative Writer will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of Amazon Frontlines’ mission and work. Based within the Communications Team, this position will collaborate closely with programmatic colleagues across the organization to produce compelling, well-researched, and engaging written content grounded in the realities of our work in the Amazon.

• Focus on developing powerful storytelling that highlights efforts to uphold Indigenous rights, confront climate change, and advance environmental justice.
• Drive awareness, action, and support for our campaigns.
• Develop a range of editorial content, including:
  • Email newsletters and fundraising campaigns
  • Website articles
  • Op-eds
  • Social media copy
• Coordinate with various teams to ensure appropriate representation of Indigenous communities and the issues affecting their territories.
• Requires a sharp eye for detail, strong research skills, and the ability to distil complex issues into clear, compelling narratives.
• Demands newsroom-like agility, with the capacity to respond quickly and produce high-quality content under tight timelines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in beat journalism, reporting, communications, fact-checking, editorial work, and storytelling.
• Strong experience working with international non-profit organizations.
• Full professional fluency in English; strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in Spanish.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling, persuasive, and emotionally resonant stories.
• Experience writing for digital fundraising and supporter engagement.
• Strong understanding of storytelling, audience segmentation, and calls to action in digital advocacy and fundraising contexts.
• Proven ability to edit different types of texts under tight deadlines.
• Experience drafting content for digital formats, including email, web, and social media.
• Demonstrated ability to edit reports, op-eds, and other long-form content.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with environmental issues and Indigenous rights, particularly related to the Amazon region.
• Experience drafting innovative and engaging email newsletter content.
• Access to necessary technology and software for remote work.

Requirements

• Content Creation for Web, Email Newsletter, and Social Networks:
  • Generate creative, thought-provoking, and original content for the organization's website, social media channels, and mailing list.
  • Engage in strategic work planning and visioning with the Communications Team.
  • Write op-eds and opinion pieces for publication in media outlets.
• Fact-Checking, Copy Editing, and Proofreading:
  • Verify the accuracy and credibility of information in various communications materials.
  • Provide editorial support in refining content for clarity and coherence.
  • Edit and proofread texts for grammatical correctness and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Work closely with writers to enhance their work's impact.
• Collaboration and Reporting:
  • Report to the Head of Digital Content and Communications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across different teams to align communication efforts.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project progress.
  • Participate in meetings to contribute expertise to communication strategies.
  • Contribute to special investigative projects through research and analysis.
