Role Description
We're looking for someone who thinks in stories and executes in strategy, a rare combination of creative instinct and editorial discipline who can own Alpha USA's content and communications lane from concept to published.
The Content & Communications Manager leads the strategy, production, and channel ownership of Alpha USA's brand storytelling and external communications. This isn't a role for someone who waits for a brief. This role is perfect for someone who writes the brief, then executes it.
You'll work closely with the Senior Director of Communications & Marketing and collaborate across the growth marketing, creative, and experiential teams to ensure Alpha's voice is consistent, compelling, and built to move people.
Content Strategy & Editorial Direction
-
Own and maintain Alpha USA's editorial calendar across channels — blog, email, social, and long-form content.
-
Set the content strategy for key campaigns and audiences, thinking audience-first before deciding on format or channel.
-
Develop and steward Alpha USA's brand voice, ensuring consistency across every piece of content the team produces.
-
Commission, brief, and edit content produced by team members, freelancers, and ministry partners.
Copywriting & Storytelling
-
Write and edit across formats: email campaigns, blog posts, landing page copy, social captions, scripts, and long-form storytelling.
-
Interview staff, church leaders, and Alpha participants to surface stories that bring the mission to life.
-
Adapt Alpha Global creative assets and messaging for the US context — contextualizing, not recreating.
-
Develop compelling narratives for lead gen campaigns in partnership with the Marketing and Campaign Manager.
Channel Ownership
-
Oversee the Alpha USA blog — editorial standards, publishing cadence, and SEO alignment.
-
Own external email communications beyond campaigns (newsletters, updates, thought leadership sends).
-
Collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator on content planning, ensuring brand voice consistency across organic channels.
-
With the direction of the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, serve as the content and comms lead for organizational moments (ex: product launches, The Alpha Conference, key announcements).
Team Leadership & Cross-functional Collaboration
-
Set strategy, provide direction and create content and communications to be used across the organization.
-
Partner with the Lead Designer to ensure creative and copy work in alignment.
-
Work with ministry teams (Envision, Generations, Equip) to understand audience needs and translate them into content that serves organizational goals.
-
Bring an audience-first perspective into cross-functional planning conversations before tactics are decided.
Qualifications
-
5+ years in content strategy, communications, or brand storytelling — ideally in a nonprofit, ministry, or mission-driven organization.
-
Exceptional writer across formats: you can write a punchy social caption and a 1,200-word narrative piece, and they both sound like the same brand.
-
Demonstrated experience building or stewarding a content strategy, not just executing one someone else designed.
-
Comfort with photo and video concepts — you don't need to shoot everything, but you can direct creative and brief a freelancer well.
-
Familiarity with HubSpot or similar marketing automation platforms; you understand how content feeds a nurture sequence.
-
Experience working across teams — you can translate ministry goals into marketing strategy without losing either.
Nice to Have
-
Experience in a faith-based or church-adjacent organization.
-
Background in or exposure to Catholic audiences or multicultural ministry contexts.
-
Basic Adobe Creative Suite or Canva familiarity — enough to give informed creative direction.
-
Experience managing or developing an early-career team member.
Desirable Characteristics
-
Mission-driven and people centered, with a genuine desire to enable others through technology.
-
Clear, steady leader who brings calm, structure, and focus in complex or ambiguous situations.
-
High ownership mindset, taking responsibility from idea through execution and follow-through.
-
A builder’s instinct—energized by imagining what Alpha’s technology could become, not only maintaining what it already is.
-
Embodies Alpha culture (prayer, invitation, hospitality, generosity).
-
Adheres to Alpha Staff Operating Values.
-
Able to navigate tensions between agility and governance – able to create clear, simple pathways for teams adopting new tools, etc. without compromising data or security.
Competencies & Attributes
-
Embodies Alpha DNA (prayer, invitation, hospitality, etc.).
-
Adheres to Alpha Staff Operating Values (see attached).
-
Ability to oversee a growing network of churches and partnerships.
-
Ability to cast vision in a compelling way.
-
Motivational leadership.
-
Collaboration / teamwork.
-
Drive for results (see organizational goals).
-
Problem solving and innovation.
