Role Description
The Associate Managing Editor is responsible for a range of editorial services, including leading the editorial work for assigned accounts, which entails:

Medical editing

Fact checking

Preparing submissions of pharmaceutical marketing materials

Reviewing internal and client changes
The Associate Managing Editor must be able to:

Additionally, the Associate Managing Editor must:

Demonstrate leadership skills

Act as an Editorial voice across all departments

Directly manage Senior Medical Editors, Medical Editors, and Associate Medical Editors

Provide timely feedback, guidance, and coaching to support growth and development
-
Adhere to internal agency processes and enforce best practices for Editorial
-
Uphold the Precision Guiding Principles of Accountability, Mutual Respect, Client Service, Collaboration, and Purpose
Essential duties include but are not limited to:

Medical Editing
-
Participate in the content review process throughout all stages of a job
-
Demonstrate and apply advanced copyediting, editing knowledge, and decision-making skills
-
Demonstrate expert knowledge of AMA Style and brand style guidelines
-
Perform fact checking and clean reads
-
Prioritize work and track toward deadlines
-
Assist with clean reading/reviewing new business pitch materials
-
Agency Process
-
Provide expert insight on agency process from an Editorial perspective
-
Ensure all pieces are compliant with each clientโs unique MLR submission process
-
Understand and adhere to advertising, pharmaceutical marketing, or medical communications agency process
-
Management and Leadership
-
Develop and maintain account-specific Editorial SOPs/style guides
-
Plan and allocate resources based on business needs
-
Participate in interview/hiring process for new editors
-
Directly supervise 1-3 Editorial team members
-
Provide direct report(s) with timely and proactive feedback
Qualifications
-
Education: Bachelorโs degree or higher, preferably in English, journalism, or a similar field
-
Work experience: 5+ years of medical editing experience; 0-2 years of management experience
-
Skills:
-
Strongly proficient in application of AMA style (11th edition)
-
Knowledge of FDA requirements with respect to pharmaceutical advertising
-
Strongly proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
-
Strong written and verbal skills; mastery of English grammar
-
Ability to prioritize deadline-sensitive projects
-
Team- and detail-oriented
-
Strong self-management, organizational, and time management skills

Strong interpersonal skills
Requirements

Familiarity with Veeva PromoMats or similar MLR submission systems
-
Familiarity with content geared toward a payer/managed care audience
