[Hiring] Director of Supply Chain Operations @Imagine Worldwide

Role Description

The Director of Supply Chain Operations will play a critical role in carrying out Imagine’s mission to scale tablet-based learning solutions that enable children to become literate and numerate. They will lead the design and optimisation of our in-country supply chain architecture in low-resource contexts, ensuring that devices reach learners, stay operational, and last as long as possible.

• Deep collaboration and partnership with country logistics teams.
• Architect and operationalise contextually relevant in-country supply chains.
• Provide thought leadership and tools for inventory and stock management.
• Manage forward and reverse logistics for devices and materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Regional Supply Chain Architecture
  • Develop in-country supply chain architectures across portfolio countries.
  • Lead geospatial mapping and analysis for route planning and warehouse placement.
  • Determine routes and vehicles for distribution and asset replacement.
  • Drive research and cost-benefit analyses for last-mile distribution strategies.
• Distribution, Repairs, and Maintenance Logistics
  • Develop cost-efficient strategies for forward and reverse logistics.
  • Establish sustainable strategies for repairs and maintenance operations.
  • Enable data-driven route planning for ongoing maintenance visits.
  • Advise country teams on spare parts management strategies.
• Inventory Tracking, Safety, and Risk Management
  • Research health and safety regulations for asset storage and distribution.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks of theft or loss of assets.
  • Recommend suitable asset tracking solutions.
  • Collaborate on improvements to inventory management processes.
  • Source and manage experts for risk assessment and mitigation.
• Local Capacity for Repairs and E-Waste Management
  • Research and disseminate global standards for sustainable electronic product management.
  • Adapt global standards to local contexts.
  • Develop strategies to cultivate technical repair skills in each country.
  • Manage partnerships for repairs and e-waste management resources.
  • Develop certification processes for technicians and disposal companies.
• Data-Driven Leadership and Capacity Building
  • Use data to improve visibility and performance of supply chain operations.
  • Enable country teams to implement global strategies through documentation and training.
  • Build a strong data culture and develop data fluency across the supply chain.
  • Champion a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Honours Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in supply chain management, logistics, or related fields. Master's Degree preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in logistics or supply chain operations.
• 5 years at a senior level with experience in supply chain architecture.
• Proven experience managing inventory, distribution, and reverse logistics.
• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management and repairs.
• Experience in low-resource, high-complexity environments.
• Experience building a data-driven culture in an organization.
• Experience working with remote or hybrid teams across multiple countries.
• Experience in the non-profit or social sector is an advantage.

Requirements

• Must be based in Africa with reliable internet access.
• Full-time remote position with at least quarterly international travel.
• Comfortable working independently in a virtual environment.
