[Hiring] Software Engineer II @Assurity

YDay - Assurity is hiring a remote Software Engineer II. 💸 Salary: unspecified 📍Location: USA

Role Description

As a Software Engineer II, you’ll deliver working software and moderate AI and automation solutions that move the business forward, from a proof of concept built in hours to a tested, observable production service, owning stories and features end to end without close direction. You write your own stories and acceptance criteria, work directly with business users, and direct AI agents on substantial development and testing work while verifying results. Assurity’s technology teams use approved AI tools routinely for suitable work and own the quality, security, and correctness of the results. You’ll bring professional judgment, which includes choosing when to use AI, checking its output, and using another method when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of professional software development experience.
  • A portfolio of work shipped iteratively with AI agents, with sound judgment in verifying the output.
  • Hands-on model API integration, retrieval, tool calling, and evaluation.
  • Experience with relational database systems (such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server), object-oriented programming, and web application development.
  • Strong Python or TypeScript, and experience building and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience building interfaces using modern HTML/CSS and building functional solutions using more than one of the following: Vue, Angular, JavaScript, .NET MVC, Entity Framework, or REST.
  • Ability to design and implement unit and integration tests, and to debug fluently with modern IDEs, preferably Visual Studio.
  • Experience with modern source control and CI/CD release pipelines, preferably Azure DevOps and Git; with containers; with Agile processes; and with modern data formats, preferably JSON and XML.
  • Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria and working directly with business users to confirm completed work.
  • Strong problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving skills, and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets, with business acumen.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced remote team environment and to learn rapidly and master diverse technologies and techniques.
  • Talent required in values, work intensity, achiever, positivity, resourcefulness, command, relationship-extension, and exactness.

Requirements

  • Deliver solutions end to end, which includes:
    • Directing AI agents to build and harden features, fixes, and proofs of concept in the real codebase.
    • Designing and building components, integrations, and business logic.
    • Implementing retrieval, tool calling, and MCP integrations with model APIs such as Anthropic and Azure OpenAI.
    • Integrating data from back-end services and databases.
  • Own quality, which includes:
    • Writing unit and integration tests and evaluations.
    • Building logging, error handling, and rollback into own solutions.
    • Creating and maintaining software documentation.
  • Operate what they build, which includes:
    • Promoting changes through CI/CD release pipelines.
    • Taking on-call shifts, resolving production alerts and incidents.
  • Own the story, which includes:
    • Writing own stories and acceptance criteria.
    • Confirming completed work with users through acceptance testing.
  • Build controls in, which includes:
    • Applying the platform’s human review, access control, audit, and communication egress and simulation patterns.
  • Collaborate and grow, which includes:
    • Coordinating with business systems analysts and senior engineers.
    • Estimating and logging time daily.
    • Sharing proven agent-directed delivery patterns across the combined team.
    • Maintaining skills through ongoing training and study.

Benefits

  • Ample opportunities for growth.
  • A thriving culture and coworkers who care.
  • Work with purpose.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant technical, analysis, cloud, insurance, or leadership certifications are beneficial.

  • Participates in the team’s rotating on-call schedule after training.
  • Occasional scheduled evening or weekend work for production deploys.
