[Hiring] Senior PostgreSQL DBA and Engineer @The AES Group

Role Description

The Senior PostgreSQL DBA and Engineer will be responsible for the following:

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise PostgreSQL databases and scalable data models.
• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL and PL/pgSQL code to support business applications and reporting.
• Monitor and tune database performance, resolve bottlenecks, and implement indexing and optimization strategies.
• Manage database availability, replication, backups, recovery processes, and disaster recovery planning.
• Build and support ETL/ELT pipelines and data integrations using Kafka, CDC, and other integration frameworks.
• Collaborate with application development teams to support APIs, microservices, and cloud-native solutions.
• Implement and maintain security controls, governance standards, and compliance requirements.
• Support cloud database environments and infrastructure automation initiatives.
• Partner with stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, improve data quality, and ensure reliable database operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL development and database administration and engineering experience in enterprise-scale environments.
• Strong expertise in database design and data modeling, including logical/physical modeling, schema design, normalization/denormalization, partitioning, and scalability.
• Advanced SQL and PL/pgSQL development skills, including stored procedures, views, materialized views, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
• Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting, including indexing strategies (B-Tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN, Hash), VACUUM optimization, statistics management, and execution plan analysis.
• Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery, including replication, failover, backup/recovery, read replicas, and scaling strategies.
• Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines, Kafka integrations, CDC, and real-time/batch data processing.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Bash, with experience supporting APIs and microservices.
• Hands-on experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
• Strong understanding of data security and governance, including RBAC, encryption, auditing, PHI/PII protection, and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Healthcare industry experience.
• Experience leading or supporting database migration initiatives.
• DevOps and infrastructure automation experience using Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or Ansible.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in cloud-native environments.
• Strong background in metadata management, data lineage, profiling, and reconciliation.
• Experience with monitoring tools, WAL management, and PostgreSQL migration utilities.
