Role Description

We are sharing a specialised remote consulting opportunity for experienced Senior Mobile Developers with strong expertise in iOS, Android, or cross-platform application development, mobile software architecture, debugging, and performance optimisation to contribute their technical knowledge to advanced AI training and evaluation initiatives.

Selected professionals will design challenging mobile software engineering tasks that evaluate how frontier AI models identify bugs, implement features, refactor code, and improve application performance. The work involves creating reproducible development environments, deterministic evaluation tests, and reference implementations that assess AI problem-solving capabilities across real-world mobile engineering scenarios. Prior experience with AI training projects is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Mobile Engineering Task Development
  • Design realistic and technically challenging mobile software engineering tasks using suitable application repositories.
  • Create coding challenges involving bug fixes, feature development, code refactoring, and performance improvements.
  • Develop tasks requiring a strong understanding of mobile application architecture and engineering practices.
  • Incorporate complex application state, asynchronous operations, and lifecycle behaviour into relevant scenarios.
  • Ensure tasks reflect practical engineering problems encountered in professional mobile development.
• Platform-Specific Development & Implementation
  • Develop mobile engineering challenges within an area of technical expertise, including iOS, Android, or cross-platform applications.
  • Apply Swift with SwiftUI or UIKit to relevant iOS development assignments.
  • Use Kotlin with Jetpack Compose or the Android View system for Android-focused challenges.
  • Develop cross-platform tasks involving React Native with TypeScript or JavaScript, or Flutter with Dart.
  • Incorporate realistic platform-specific constraints, application behaviours, and implementation requirements.
• Debugging, Refactoring & Performance Optimisation
  • Design problems involving subtle bugs and complex application behaviour.
  • Develop scenarios requiring investigation of state management, asynchronous execution, and application lifecycle issues.
  • Create challenges involving meaningful feature implementation and improvements to existing codebases.
  • Assess the correctness and maintainability of mobile code changes and refactoring approaches.
  • Develop tasks that evaluate effective diagnosis and resolution of mobile application performance issues.
• Reproducible Environments & Automated Verification
  • Build reproducible development environments for each mobile engineering challenge.
  • Define clear problem statements, expected behaviour, and technical acceptance criteria.
  • Develop deterministic verifiers that evaluate the correctness of submitted solutions.
  • Ensure evaluation tests recognise different valid implementations while rejecting incomplete, incorrect, or hard-coded approaches.
  • Validate task reliability and consistency across repeated evaluation runs.
• Reference Solutions & AI Evaluation Quality
  • Produce complete reference implementations demonstrating successful solutions to assigned engineering tasks.
  • Verify that reference solutions satisfy the defined technical requirements and automated checks.
  • Evaluate task difficulty, technical relevance, and suitability for advanced AI model assessment.
  • Document implementation requirements, verification procedures, and expected outcomes clearly.
  • Maintain high standards of engineering quality, reproducibility, and evaluation reliability across deliverables.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on professional experience in mobile software engineering or application development.
• Advanced proficiency in at least one of the following development tracks: iOS, Android, or cross-platform mobile applications.
• Strong experience developing, maintaining, and debugging production-quality mobile applications.
• Deep understanding of mobile application architecture and common design patterns.
• Strong practical knowledge of application state management and lifecycle handling.
• Experience with asynchronous programming, concurrency, and related debugging challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve complex mobile application bugs.
• Experience implementing non-trivial features within existing mobile codebases.
• Strong software refactoring skills and an understanding of maintainable code design.
• Practical experience identifying and resolving mobile application performance issues.
• Familiarity with software testing, debugging tools, and automated verification workflows.
• Ability to create reproducible technical environments and clearly specified coding challenges.
• Strong understanding of test correctness, deterministic evaluation, and implementation-independent acceptance criteria.
• Experience working with existing code repositories and interpreting complex application logic.
• Ability to develop reliable reference solutions for technically challenging engineering problems.
• Strong analytical reasoning, independent problem-solving, and attention to detail.
• Clear written communication skills for documenting technical requirements and solution criteria.
• Ability to manage independent technical assignments in a remote environment.
• Experience in developer tooling, software testing infrastructure, or automated code evaluation is advantageous.
• Previous experience with reinforcement learning environments or AI model evaluation is beneficial but not required.

Engagement Details

• Freelance / contract engagement
• Fully remote
• Compensation: $50–$100/hour advertised rate range
• Payment Structure: Output-based compensation, with payment per completed task meeting project specifications.
• Expected Commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week

• Availability: Candidates should be prepared for a prompt start following selection and onboarding.
• Anticipated Start: First assignments are generally expected within 24–48 hours after onboarding.
