Role Description
This role involves working as a Senior Back-End Engineer at Float, contributing to the evolution of our product and supporting our 2025 Mission & Strategy.
- Ownership of Back-End Development: Take ownership of critical back-end initiatives within your squad, ensuring continuity in ongoing and planned work.
- Enhancing Reliability & Performance: Improve observability, logging, and monitoring to reduce friction in key workflows.
- Driving Scalable Product Features: Contribute to the development of new and existing capabilities through intelligent, data-driven solutions.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, and platform teams for seamless alignment.
- Proactively Identify & Solve Bottlenecks: Address scaling challenges and optimize systems for future growth.
- Optimize & Maintain Back-End Systems: Ensure performance, reliability, and scalability as usage expands.
- Lead Development of New Capabilities: Help shape new product features that enhance user experience and real-time data accessibility.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of engineering principles for delivering high-quality services in a growth-stage business.
- Experience designing and building services for modern cloud architectures on platforms like GCP and AWS.
- Proficiency in PHP and Node.js within a production environment.
- Expertise in SQL and NoSQL database technologies, with a focus on MySQL and MongoDB.
- Experience in designing and developing services within a microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with serverless architectures (e.g., Cloud Run, App Engine).
- Knowledge of event-driven and asynchronous architectures for building scalable and reliable distributed systems.
- Experience developing integrations with third-party APIs.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions while recognizing the boundaries of expertise.
- Strong written communication skills to convey ideas and maintain effective collaboration.
- A strong focus on the end-user experience, advocating for improvements.
- A practical approach to problem-solving, balancing immediate solutions with long-term goals.
- Comfortable with asynchronous communication and previous remote experience.
Requirements
- Experience with back-end technologies including PHP, Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Neo4j.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with messaging systems like Kafka and RabbitMQ.

- Co-Worker Interview (30 min): Interview with Senior Staff Engineer and Senior Services Engineer about collaboration and communication skills.
- Founder Interview (30 min): Meeting with CTO and Co-Founder to assess potential fit within the team.
