Role Description
The Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other 'system' software. Responsibilities include:
- Maintenance and debugging of systems software
- Coordination and the IOGEN work for new MF hardware
- Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products
- Assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution
- Monitoring and tuning of systems software
- Functional knowledge and use of z/OS components
- Detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.
This position requires an experienced systems programmer with at least 8 years of experience supporting the z/OS Mainframe Network environment.
As a Mainframe Network Specialist, you'll need to know how to:
- Perform TCPIP Port Reserves (Additions, Deletions, Changes)
- Perform VTAM updates (Additions, Deletions, Changes)
- Manage OSA Adapters in a complex Mainframe environment
- Perform VTAM PU/LU updates (Additions, Deletions, Changes) including Enterprise Extenders (EE)
- Understand the configuration/installation of network products (Connect Direct, ASG OUTBOUND) and support FTP, SFTP and FTP/TLS
- Implement AT-TLS rules (digital certificate management)
- Configure and manage IPSEC policies (permit/deny rules, VPN- ipsec tunnels)
- Trace, Debug and Error Analysis
- Support Client Disaster Recovery Exercises
- Problem and Change Management
- Service Request Management
- Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure Network connectivity and security
- Act as a Mainframe Networking resource for internal and external department projects
Qualifications
- Extensive experience of Mainframe Network (VTAM) systems programming
- Knowledge of z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, JCL
- Experience with Session Management products e.g. TPX, Teleview, CL/Supersession
- Experience with Network Management products e.g. NETVIEW, Netmaster/TCPIP
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent problem determination skills
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Ability to communicate complex information in a meaningful way
- Experience in creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans

- Support for other projects requiring software expertise
- Be part of an on-call rotation
- Set and achieve challenging short, medium and long term goals
- Build effective networks across business areas
