[Hiring] Physics Expert @24-MAG

3d ago - 24-MAG is hiring a remote Physics Expert. πŸ’Έ Salary: $100–$200/hour πŸ“Location: Worldwide

Role Description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for PhD-level physicists and advanced-stage doctoral researchers with deep expertise in theoretical, computational, or experimental physics to contribute to an advanced AI training and scientific problem-solving project. Selected professionals will solve research-level physics problems within their areas of specialisation, produce rigorous mathematical derivations, verify results computationally where appropriate, and document their reasoning to professional research standards. The work requires strong physical intuition, mathematical and computational fluency, and the ability to communicate complex scientific reasoning with precision. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced Physics Problem Solving
    • Solve challenging physics problems within your area of research expertise
    • Develop rigorous derivations and technically defensible analyses
    • Identify the core physical principles governing complex problem settings
    • State assumptions, approximations, and limitations explicitly
    • Address special cases, limiting regimes, and relevant boundary conditions where necessary
  • Mathematical & Technical Documentation
    • Produce precise, well-structured solutions using appropriate mathematical notation
    • Use LaTeX to present derivations, equations, assumptions, and final results clearly
    • Check dimensional consistency and mathematical validity throughout solutions
    • Identify subtleties or ambiguities in problem statements before drawing conclusions
    • Maintain documentation standards consistent with professional scientific research
  • Computational Verification & Reproducibility
    • Use Python, SymPy, Jupyter, or comparable tools for symbolic and numerical verification where appropriate
    • Develop clear computational workflows supporting analytical results
    • Validate calculations through independent numerical or symbolic checks
    • Document computational methodology sufficiently for results to be reproduced
    • Distinguish numerical approximations from exact analytical conclusions
  • Scientific Review & Iterative Refinement
    • Flag ambiguous, incomplete, or technically problematic project materials
    • Propose well-reasoned interpretations or clarifications when necessary
    • Respond to reviewer feedback and revise technical solutions accordingly
    • Integrate corrections cleanly while preserving consistency across derivations and conclusions
    • Maintain rigorous quality, clarity, and reproducibility across project submissions

Qualifications

  • PhD in physics or advanced-stage PhD candidacy with active research experience
  • Research expertise in one or more areas including:
    • High Energy Physics
    • Mathematical Physics
    • Biophysics
    • Statistical Physics
    • Condensed Matter Physics
    • AMO or Quantum Optics
    • Gravitation
    • Cosmology
    • Astrophysics
    • Quantum Information
    • Optical Properties of Materials
  • Relevant condensed matter experience may include areas such as moirΓ© systems, magnetism, or PXP/Rydberg systems
  • Strong mathematical and computational problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency with LaTeX for technical and mathematical writing
  • Familiarity with SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for computational verification
  • Ability to identify assumptions, boundary conditions, dimensional issues, and subtle technical edge cases
  • Demonstrated excellence in written scientific communication
  • Strong ability to isolate key physical principles and construct nuanced solutions to complex problems
  • Ideally able to provide 2–5 representative recent publications from approximately the past five years, with accessible arXiv or DOI records
  • No prior experience in AI training or model evaluation is required

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote and open to candidates worldwide
  • Compensation: $100–$200/hour
  • Expected commitment: approximately 10–15+ hours per week
  • Schedule is fully flexible and can accommodate evenings or weekends
  • Expected project duration is approximately 8–10 weeks
  • Consistent availability of approximately 10 hours per week is preferred throughout the engagement
  • Work will involve advanced physics problem solving, mathematical derivation, computational verification, and technical documentation
  • Assignments may vary depending on individual research specialisation and project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, research group, or other third party
