We are operating as an approved SkillBridge Organization in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 1322.29. GDMS is honored to assist our military and has specifically designed our internships to prepare participants for their transition to civilian life.

The GDMS Military Internship program is open to all ranks, enlisted or officer, may apply. Participants are not eligible for compensation from the company, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. A GDMS Military Internship, whether entry or mid-level, is an opportunity for individuals to gain valuable civilian experience through specific industry training during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Participation in GDMS’s Military Internship Program is voluntary, Service member-initiated, and must be authorized by the individual’s chain of command prior to the start of the internship. Successful completion of all necessary company agreements and documentation will also be required.

This program is being afforded to both active duty Military Members of all supporting branches and Military Spouses. You will job-shadow and learn from experienced leaders and other smart, motivated people. This program will help you develop best in class skills on mission critical work.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an opening for a Sr IT Project Specialist.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Program Management, or a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required; plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.
• Meets SkillBridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29.

Requirements

• Has served at least 180 days on active duty.
• Is within 12 months of separation or retirement.
• Will receive an honorable discharge.
• Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS.
• Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months.
• Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

• Support the Sr IT Project Specialist with coordination of onboarding programs, program expansions, customer/stakeholder relationships, and assigned IT projects.
• Attend daily IT stand-up meetings and assigned program meetings; communicate progress, priorities, dependencies, risks, and blockers.
• Capture meeting notes, decisions, action items, assigned owners, and due dates; distribute meeting summaries and follow up on commitments.
• Maintain and update Jira project boards, tasks, statuses, priorities, and associated documentation.
• Create and maintain project schedules, milestone trackers, action-item logs, and status reports.
• Coordinate remotely with system administrators, project team members, and stakeholders to clarify tasking, track progress, and resolve routine issues.
• Assist with prioritizing work based on program timelines, stakeholder needs, operational impact, and direction from the IT Project Manager.
• Prepare meeting agendas, stakeholder communications, project updates, and presentation materials for review.
• Identify project risks, dependencies, schedule impacts, and blockers; promptly escalate items requiring leadership decision.
• Support stakeholder communication and maintain professional, responsive relationships with internal customers and project participants.
• Document procedures, templates, lessons learned, and repeatable project-management practices.

• Demonstrated ability to understand and become familiar with the Lean-Agile mindset, principles, and practices, including DevSecOps, Scrum, SAFe, and Kanban.
• Demonstrates a substantial, advanced, and significant ability to communicate clearly, both in written and verbal forms.
• Ability to manage stakeholder expectations, negotiate, and resolve conflicts.
• Ability to generate cohesive project plans.
• Ability to identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends.

• Ability to make sound, proactive decisions.
• Ability to track work accomplished to baseline plans to ensure rate of work completion is sufficient to meet schedules.
• Ability to understand and analyze project financial data.
• Proficient in MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Ability to develop and execute proposal plans and strategies.
• Considerable knowledge of work estimating allocation, scheduling, and authorization.
• Considerable understanding of the fundamentals of risk and opportunity management and ability to apply them to projects.

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range: USD $90,000.00 - USD $94,500.00 /Yr.
