Role Description
The Director, Clinical Practice Liaison (CPL) is a senior leadership role with broader strategic accountability for the CPL function (part of the Field Medical Team at Madrigal) within a defined U.S. region and therapeutic area. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping the vision, direction, and performance of the CPL team, ensuring the team aligns with and advances the companyβs overarching medical strategy, adheres to regulatory and internal policies, and maximizes scientific impact for both internal and external stakeholders.
This position will collaborate closely and compliantly with cross-functional colleagues (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Clinical Operations, HQ Medical Affairs) and external partners, including healthcare decision-makers and other relevant stakeholders, serving as a key liaison to drive strategic initiatives and influence medical and business outcomes.
The position reports to the Executive Director, Field Medical and is a field-based position with travel required within assigned territory.
All incumbents are responsible for following applicable Medical Affairs & Madrigal policies and procedures and are compliant with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. Strong understanding of US regulations and compliance is required.

Key Responsibilities and Primary Activities

CPL Team Scientific & Clinical Education

Support and help shape the regional strategy for the CPL team to deliver unbiased, evidence-based education on MASH, ensuring CPLs address identified gaps in knowledge and clinical implementation.

Promote consistent and high-quality communication of clinical practice guidelines and real-world data related to MASH diagnosis, risk stratification, and patient management.

Maintain strong working knowledge of MASH Non-Invasive Testing (NITs), treatment paradigms, and clinical protocols across the liver/metabolic spectrum, while providing scientific guidance to the team.

CPL Team Practice Engagement & Enablement

Support the Executive Director in the oversight of practice engagement, ensuring CPLs effectively support implementation of MASH care pathways.

Support adoption of guideline-based approaches, payer-aligned workflows, and quality-driven practice standards across the region.

Ensure accuracy and compliance in CPL responses to unsolicited inquiries, reinforcing regulatory expectations.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, coach, and manage performance of regional CPLs.

Foster continuous development through mentoring, structured training, and scientific upskilling.

Ensure CPL activities align with strategic objectives and tactical plans, supporting consistency and quality in execution.

Medical Strategy Execution
-
Execute regional field medical strategies in alignment with national direction.

Translate national medical objectives into actionable, regionally tailored field activities.

Partner with HQ Medical Affairs and cross-functional leaders to integrate meaningful field insights into medical planning.

Clinical Trial Support

Collaborate with Clinical Operations to support successful study execution based on regional site and practice needs.

Identify potential research sites or practice barriers informed by field insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Act as a regional medical point-of-contact, partnering across Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, Market Access, and Clinical Operations to maintain alignment and address clinical or strategic needs.

Serve as a conduit for HQ Medical Affairs initiatives, ensuring clear communication and coordinated execution.

Contribute to launch readiness and lifecycle management activities, ensuring CPL efforts support national and regional priorities.

Represent Madrigal at scientific meetings, supporting CPL engagement and ensuring compliant scientific exchange and insight collection.

Insight Gathering & Strategic Feedback

Synthesize, prioritize, and elevate regionally derived insights to inform medical strategy, evidence-generation planning, and educational needs.

Keep abreast of regional analysis of emerging clinical trends and barriers to care, providing strategic recommendations for internal planning.

Ensure structured, compliant insight reporting across the CPL team.

Compliance & Professional Standards

Adhere strictly to all applicable company and regulatory policies, including FDA and industry guidelines for non-promotional medical engagements.

Ensure thorough documentation and accountability for all scientific interactions.

Maintain a strong understanding of US regulations and compliance.

Travel Requirement

Ability to travel from 25-70% including support of scientific meetings over weekends.
Qualifications
-
Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare discipline (MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP, etc.).

Minimum 5 years of Medical Affairs experience, including at least 3 years as an MSL or equivalent (translatable clinical practice experience will be considered).

Minimum 3 years of people management experience or formal leadership development participation.

In-depth knowledge of clinical medicine and medical research.

Proven ability to understand, communicate, and translate complex scientific information.

Strong knowledge of U.S. healthcare system, FDA regulations, and medical affairs compliance standards.

Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration, project execution, and strategic planning skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, virtual communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams), and related Medical Affairs Systems (e.g. Veeva Vault, CRM tools).

Base salary range for this position is $233,134 - $267,100 per year.
