Role Description
We are looking for an individual to lead the Degree Product Marketing & Portfolio Strategy team (Director level and below). The team owns 2U's up-to-date view of the degree verticals we operate in and the products launched with current university partners, and produces the research, narrative, financial modeling, and recommendations behind new products (e.g., new graduate degree programs), new verticals, and enhancements to existing products across the 2U portfolio.
This role sits at the intersection of portfolio strategy and partnership development:
-
Owns evaluation of new program opportunities and product-market fit.
-
Directly supports partnership development and deal-stage conversations with data-driven recommendations.
-
Expected to operate as a strategic partner to the Chief Partnership Officer and BD/Partnerships leadership.
In an ever-changing environment, this individual should be able to:
-
Balance multiple short- and long-term deliverables across portfolio strategy, new program evaluation, partnership support, and existing product optimization.
-
Ensure on-time and accurate delivery of work products.
-
Help drive 2U to meet its long-term strategic, launch, and financial goals.
This is a remote position with travel involved.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
-
Portfolio Strategy:
Own the development of 2U's degree portfolio strategy β identifying high-potential education verticals and market opportunities that align with 2U's growth strategy, and building the analytical framework the business uses to prioritize where to invest.
-
Product Enhancements:
Partner with cross-functional teams across Marketing, Product Strategy, Alt Cred, and Degree to monitor conversion trends across existing products, and drive enhancement strategies that mitigate risk and capture opportunity across the launched portfolio. Identify disruptive, non-obvious approaches to problems that return measurable value. Lead initiatives that use data and research to improve conversion, enrollment outcomes, and long-term program sustainability.
-
Team Management:
Own the performance, development, and output quality of the Product Marketing Directors (and analysts below); set team priorities and ensure the team's work products meet the bar for exec- and partner-facing use.
-
New Product and Partnership Narrative:
Support the Director of Product Marketing, Pipeline on the evaluation of inbound and proactive new-program opportunities with prospective and current university partners. Foster the development of business cases β market analysis, program viability assessments, financial projections, and strategic recommendations. Be a direct analytical and narrative partner to Business Development and Partnerships leadership in deal-stage conversations, providing data-driven insight that shapes deal strategy rather than simply supporting it after the fact.
-
2U Product Positioning:
Own the strategy behind how 2U, and 2U's university partners and programs, are positioned in market. Direct the team's synthesis of input from business stakeholders and 2U's analytics functions into the data and narrative needed to drive superior outcomes for existing and new products.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree a plus.
-
8-12 years of experience in marketing and sales strategy, ideally at a growing software company or in higher education.
-
Demonstrated experience supporting or driving partnership/deal-stage strategy, not solely internal marketing strategy.
-
A track record of building strong relationships with senior stakeholders, including C-suite.
-
Strong quantitative fluency β able to build and defend financial and market-sizing models independently.
-
Strong detail orientation and follow-through.
-
Ability to think outside the box and find creative, unorthodox solutions when needed.
-
Must be a self-starter able to prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-changing environment.
-
Ability to make sound, well-reasoned decisions under ambiguity.
Benefits
-
Comprehensive benefits (unique per country) and excellent work/life balance.
-
Full-time, U.S. benefits include:
-
Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
-
Life insurance, disability, and 401(k) employer match.
-
Free snacks and drinks in-office.
-
Generous paid holidays and leave policies, including unlimited PTO.
-
Additional time off benefits include: volunteer days, parental leave, and a company-wide winter break.
-
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $170,000 - $215,000 with potential bonus eligibility.
