Role Description
You'll lead marketing operations and analytics at Cohere. That covers the team, the martech stack, how we measure marketing's contribution to pipeline, and the budget and pipeline numbers marketing plans against. When leadership asks what marketing produced last quarter and what to fund next, the answer starts with your numbers.
The role reports to the VP of Brand. You'll work most closely with the Marketing Chief of Staff and the heads of Growth and Demand and Product Marketing, and every week with Revenue Operations, Sales Operations & Finance. Web operations is part of marketing but doesn't report to this role.
What you'll own
-
The team:
You'll manage the marketing operations, automation, and analytics and data operations staff, and hire where you find gaps. Marketing is growing rapidly, so you'll also bring acquired companies' systems and data into our stack.
-
Measurement:
The attribution methodology is yours, documented and signed off by Marketing, Revenue Operations and Finance. Each quarter you'll present marketing's pipeline contribution to the executive team and say what you'd change. Your analysts do the same for the program teams in Growth and Demand, Events and Product Marketing, showing which campaigns and channels are paying back their spend.
-
Systems and data:
Marketo, Looker, GA4 and 6sense are yours end to end, along with the campaign and lead side of Salesforce. That includes forms, nurture, lead lifecycle, scoring and routing. Campaign data needs to be structured well enough that analysts don't need workarounds, and target-account data has to reconcile to the governed account list. With Revenue Operations, you'll make sure the data behind marketing's pipeline numbers can't change without a record, so a bulk edit can't quietly rewrite marketing's results. A/B testing on nurture and forms sits with you too, sized so the results can be read.
-
Budget and planning numbers:
You'll own the martech and operations budget and track budget and headcount across marketing. You'll also build the pipeline and capacity models marketing plans against. The Marketing Chief of Staff runs planning and the business reviews and leads the trade-off conversations with your numbers in hand. Marketing and Sales need to count pipeline the same way, every time.
Your first year
-
In the first 90 days, you'll document the attribution methodology and get it signed off by Marketing, Revenue Operations and Finance. By then we should also have an inventory of every reporting surface, each with a named owner, and your order for fixing the data problems you inherit.
-
By three months, one governed executive dashboard has replaced the competing decks in business reviews, and rebuilt lead routing is in production.
-
By six months, target-account reporting reconciles to the governed list, and anyone on the team can reproduce quarterly attribution from the documented method, with change control on the data underneath it. The stack is smaller than when you arrived, and some marketing workflows run on agents in production. Annual planning runs on your budget, headcount and pipeline models.
