[Hiring] Senior Product & Regulatory Counsel - Investment Products @Mercury

Role Description

There's a version of investment products legal work that's mostly about maintaining what already exists. This isn't that. Mercury Treasury and Mercury Invest are in some ways still taking shape and must continually rise to the occasion to meet evolving customer needs. The regulatory frameworks are complex, the product roadmap is ambitious, and the person in this role will have a direct hand in the high quality customer experience we deliver to Mercury users.

What you'll do:

• Own the investment products portfolio:
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for Mercury Treasury and Mercury Invest.
  • Advise across the full product life cycle, including supporting new feature development, drafting disclosures, calibrating on content for marketing and customer communications, and advising on operational matters with regulatory impacts.
• Work across the company:
  • Build relationships across product, compliance, risk, engineering, and operations.
  • Bring legal perspective into conversations early; act as a low ego, high ownership thought partner.
• Advise and support compliance:
  • Work closely with Mercury's compliance team on regulatory matters affecting investment products.
  • Interpret requirements, pressure-test approaches, and support examination readiness with FINRA and the SEC.
• Flex and grow:
  • Contribute across Legal on other product areas, gaining new experiences and broadening expertise over time.
• Use AI intentionally:
  • Bring a working knowledge of AI tools in legal workflows and a genuine interest in finding new ways to drive efficiency.
• Be a storyteller:
  • Translate dense regulatory concepts into straightforward, energizing narratives for product teams and other stakeholders.
• Stay curious and agile:
  • Embrace each new regulation, market shift, or product pivot as a learning opportunity.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of legal experience, with at least 2 years focused on non-deposit investment products.
• Familiarity with the Investment Advisers Act, Securities Act, Investment Company Act, Regulation Best Interest, Form CRS/ADV, FINRA rules, and related regulatory frameworks.
• Some in-house experience is preferred but not required.
• Exceptional communication skills, tailoring messages to the audience.
• A proactive sense of ownership.
• Strong working knowledge of AI use cases within legal roles and/or financial services.
• Some additional experience outside the investments/brokerage space.

Compensation

• US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $219,000 - $273,800
• US employees outside of the New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $197,100 - $246,400
• Canadian employees (any location): $207,000 - $258,700 CAD
