Role Description

A senior transactional attorney will lead complex affordable housing matters for a collaborative legal team. This role supports developers through the full deal lifecycle and contributes to the growth of the practice.

• Lead affordable housing transactions involving 4% and 9% LIHTC allocations, tax-exempt bond financing, and multiple funding sources from engagement through closing.
• Manage client relationships and deal execution for for-profit and nonprofit developers throughout the development process.
• Draft, negotiate, and close partnership agreements, operating agreements, loan documents, and complex financing instruments.
• Structure transactions involving Section 42 LIHTC and Section 142 tax-exempt private activity bond rules.
• Supervise associates and paralegals, manage deal teams, and contribute to training and practice development.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and 8 or more years of affordable housing and LIHTC transactional experience.
• Law firm experience and a record of independently managing LIHTC transactions from engagement through closing.
• Strong knowledge of Section 42 and Section 142, including 4% and 9% LIHTC deals, tax-exempt bonds, and multi-source financing closings.
• Experience drafting and negotiating partnership agreements, operating agreements, and loan documents, and managing developer relationships.
• Experience supervising legal teams; an active law license in good standing and New York admission or willingness to obtain it.
• A collaborative approach suited to a flat team environment. Experience with HUD programs, GSE financing, or GP/LP acquisitions is a plus.

Benefits

• Base salary: $300,000 to $400,000 annually.

• Remote within the United States, with New York City as the primary location.
• Periodic visits to the New York City or Buffalo office are expected.
