Role Description
We are seeking a highly articulate, polished, and persistent Legal Recruiter / Candidate Development Specialist to drive passive candidate engagement for sophisticated attorney placements. This is
not
a high-volume, transactional recruiting role where candidates submit active applications. You will be reaching out directly to well-established, highly compensated attorneys, senior associates, and law firm partners who are comfortable in their current positions and not actively seeking a move.
Your objective is to conduct intelligent, consultative outreach, build immediate professional credibility, and pique the interest of top-tier legal talentβturning cold outreach into meaningful, preliminary career conversations.
Key Responsibilities
-
Passive Candidate Sourcing & Research:
Conduct targeted research using specialized legal databases (e.g., Firm Prospects, LinkedIn Recruiter, state bar directories) to identify senior associates and partners matching active search specs.
-
Consultative Outbound Outreach:
Execute tailored, multi-channel outreach strategies (phone, personalized email, LinkedIn) to initiate contact with passive attorneys.
-
High-Touch Candidate Engagement:
Articulate complex legal career opportunities clearly and compellingly without sounding transactional or script-reliant.
-
Objection Handling & Persistence:
Engage constructively with busy, skeptical, or defensive professionals; manage objections smoothly and execute professional, multi-touch follow-up cadences.
-
Qualification & Handoff:
Assess preliminary alignment regarding practice area fit, career motivation, and book of business (where applicable), then seamlessly introduce qualified candidates to our client's senior search principals.
-
Pipeline Quality Maintenance:
Focus on candidate quality and fit rather than sheer volume, delivering 3β5 well-qualified, highly interested attorney conversations per month.
Qualifications
-
Must-Have Qualifications:
-
Flawless Communication Skills: Exceptional written and spoken English with zero robotic phrasing, strong professional presence, and native-level conversational fluency.
-
Sophisticated Professional Presence: Confidence and composure when engaging with high-income, highly educated professionals (AmLaw 100/200 partners, senior corporate attorneys).
-
Proven Outbound Sourcing Experience: Demonstrated success in executive search, high-ticket consultative B2B sales, or boutique executive recruitment where cold outreach to passive talent is required.
-
Active Listening & Natural Dialogue: Ability to steer conversations dynamically without relying on rigid scripts or generic templates.
-
Resilience & Grit: High tolerance for initial rejection, delayed responses, and gatekeepers, paired with the discipline to maintain thoughtful follow-up cadences.
-
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Background in legal recruiting, professional services search (consulting, finance, accounting), or high-end B2B sales.
-
Familiarity with the US legal landscape (AmLaw rankings, law firm structures, associate/partner tracks, billable hour dynamics).
-
Experience utilizing legal recruitment platforms (e.g., Firm Prospects, PitchBook, LinkedIn Recruiter).
What Makes Someone a Poor Fit
-
Relying heavily on standardized outreach scripts or automated mass messaging.
-
Discomfort or hesitation with outbound phone calls.
-
Difficulty communicating fluidly or matching the professional cadence of US-based attorneys.
-
Preference for high-volume applicant screening over deep, targeted sourcing.
-
Giving up early when passive candidates do not respond to initial touches.
What Success Looks Like
-
First 30β60 Days:
Master our client's target practice areas, terminology, and firm profiles; establish a consistent outreach process.
-
Ongoing Target:
Consistently introduce 3 to 5 qualified, highly interested candidate opportunities per month to the senior recruitment team.
