The Community Firm (d/b/a Community Economic Defense Project, CEDP) is seeking a contractor to provide short-term support case support for affirmative homeowner litigation.

In this contractor role you will:

  • Provide affirmative litigation on behalf of low-and moderate-income homeowners and mobile homeowners. Representative matters may relate to:

    • Sales of defective mobile homes
    • Exploitative mobile home park owner practices
    • Fair housing

    • Mobile home lot eviction
    • Replevin actions
  • Cases may be litigated using state and/or federal consumer protection law, real property law, state and federal fair housing laws, Colorado’s Mobile Home Park Act, and other statutes as appropriate.
  • Work as lead attorney or supporting counsel, depending on the case, to successfully litigate claims in state and/or federal court through all stages of litigation, including:
    • Motion practice
    • Fact and/or expert discovery
    • Depositions
    • Trial
    • Mediation and/or informal settlement negotiation
  • Coordinate with paralegal staff working in cases described above without being subject to direct supervision over daily work.
  • Coordinate across CEDP to ensure timely tracking and reporting of case completions.
  • Attend hearings, court appearances, and conferences based on case requirements.
  • Interact with and present to partners across the organization to serve clients efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete the required documentation for both case tracking and personal management.
  • Perform other legal work related to the contract deliverables as mutually agreed with CED Law, ensuring autonomy over how work is completed.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal communication, and legal writing skills.
  • A supportive, client-focused, and creative mindset.
  • Demonstrated passion for social and racial justice, underpinning a commitment to fighting for the rights of vulnerable communities.
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative, rapid-change environment centered on social justice and equity, while being a part of building something new.
  • Ability to travel to and within Colorado, as required.

Requirements

  • Evidence of admission to or eligibility for admission to the US District Court for the District of Colorado.
  • Evidence of admission to or eligibility for admission to the Colorado State Bar (current admission preferred).
  • Resume demonstrating qualifications that include:
    • 2+ years of litigation experience at a non-profit organization, government enforcement agency, legal services provider, or private law firm, with a strong preference for applicants with experience in:
      • Mortgage servicing
      • Predatory lending
      • Consumer protection
      • Fair lending
      • Bankruptcy
      • Civil rights
      • Housing justice or other relevant litigation
    • Demonstrated passion for social and racial justice.
    • Robust research and drafting capabilities.
    • Strong desire to center client and community needs.
    • Knowledge of MS Office suite, CLIO, Google Suite, and e-discovery tools desired.
    • Other language skills not required, but are a strong plus.
    • Interest in or experience with class actions or other multi-plaintiff litigation is a plus.

Benefits

  • This contracting role may require occasional in-person work for meetings, witnesses, and/or other case development, and court appearances.
  • CED Law’s budget for the four-month contract is $37,000.

Timeline

  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, but must be received by April 20, 2026.
  • The estimated time to complete the process will be by April 30, 2026.
  • Contract period: June 1, 2026–September 30, 2026.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Proposals will be evaluated on the alignment of qualifications and experience to CED Law’s needs.
  • As part of our evaluation, we will be reviewing the following:
