Role Description
The Community Firm (d/b/a Community Economic Defense Project, CEDP) is seeking a contractor to provide short-term support case support for affirmative homeowner litigation.
In this contractor role you will:

Provide affirmative litigation on behalf of low-and moderate-income homeowners and mobile homeowners. Representative matters may relate to:

Abusive lending practices
-
Mortgage servicing errors
-
Sales of defective mobile homes
-
Exploitative mobile home park owner practices
-
Fair housing
-
Title disputes
-
HOAs
-
Other topics
-
This practice stems directly from CED Law’s defensive work, as we seek to vindicate the rights of low-and moderate-income homeowners to prevent loss of property from:
-
Foreclosure
-
Mobile home lot eviction
-
Replevin actions
-
Cases may be litigated using state and/or federal consumer protection law, real property law, state and federal fair housing laws, Colorado’s Mobile Home Park Act, and other statutes as appropriate.

Work as lead attorney or supporting counsel, depending on the case, to successfully litigate claims in state and/or federal court through all stages of litigation, including:
-
Motion practice
-
Fact and/or expert discovery
-
Depositions
-
Trial
-
Mediation and/or informal settlement negotiation
-
Coordinate with paralegal staff working in cases described above without being subject to direct supervision over daily work.

Coordinate across CEDP to ensure timely tracking and reporting of case completions.

Attend hearings, court appearances, and conferences based on case requirements.

Interact with and present to partners across the organization to serve clients efficiently and effectively.

Complete the required documentation for both case tracking and personal management.

Perform other legal work related to the contract deliverables as mutually agreed with CED Law, ensuring autonomy over how work is completed.

Ability to travel to and within Colorado, as required.
Requirements
-
Evidence of admission to or eligibility for admission to the US District Court for the District of Colorado.

Evidence of admission to or eligibility for admission to the Colorado State Bar (current admission preferred).

Resume demonstrating qualifications that include:
-
2+ years of litigation experience at a non-profit organization, government enforcement agency, legal services provider, or private law firm, with a strong preference for applicants with experience in:

Mortgage servicing

Predatory lending
-
Consumer protection
-
Fair lending
-
Bankruptcy
-
Civil rights
-
Housing justice or other relevant litigation
-
Demonstrated passion for social and racial justice.

Robust research and drafting capabilities.
-
Strong desire to center client and community needs.

Knowledge of MS Office suite, CLIO, Google Suite, and e-discovery tools desired.

Other language skills not required, but are a strong plus.

Interest in or experience with class actions or other multi-plaintiff litigation is a plus.
Benefits

This contracting role may require occasional in-person work for meetings, witnesses, and/or other case development, and court appearances.

CED Law’s budget for the four-month contract is $37,000.
Timeline

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, but must be received by April 20, 2026.

The estimated time to complete the process will be by April 30, 2026.

Contract period: June 1, 2026–September 30, 2026.
