Role Description

Costs recovery:

• Responsible for drafting Bills of Costs arising from proceedings within the Court of Protection.
• Prepare and submit claims for costs for assessment and payment.
• Ensure maximum costs are recovered in a timely manner for the Client.
• Provide guidance and support to clients and other staff regarding costs issues.
• Advise clients on the outcome of the assessment and whether to pursue an appeal.

Appeals:

• Handle informal and formal appeals to the SCCO following receipt of assessed bill.
• Draft all necessary documents and file them accordingly.

Assessment assistance:

• Draft and prepare all documentation and file via approved court portals.
• Assist in promptly sending client files, whether electronic or paper.

All matters:

• Deal with any advices, including provisional assessment/detailed assessment hearings as necessary.
• Ensure all matters are handled in accordance with The Civil Procedure Rules and applicable Court of Protection Rules.

Qualifications

• Experience in costs recovery and drafting Bills of Costs.
• Knowledge of The Civil Procedure Rules and Court of Protection Rules.
• Strong communication and advisory skills.

Requirements

• Meet agreed company targets.
• Undertake cradle to grave costs work in accordance with the agreed SLA.
• Prepare Bills of Costs and draft Statements of Costs where required.
• Advise on assessment parameters and outcomes.
• Prepare applications, appeals, and any related documentation required.
• Attend hearings if required.
• Peer check other Cost Draftsmen’s work to ensure quality and adherence to Service Level Agreements.
• Attend regular training sessions to stay updated with legislation, regulations, and case law.
• Ensure Service Level Agreements are met by self and others.
• Assist in preparing training materials for the development of other staff members.
• Assist in preparing social media campaigns as required.
• Deal with client queries and client relationship activities.
• Cover for other staff as required.
• Oversee the development of Trainees where applicable.
• Be responsible for own continuous personal development.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties designated by supervisors to meet business needs.
