Role Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Australian Tax Accountant to join our team and support Australian SME clients. This is a permanent remote role ideal for an experienced accounting professional with strong expertise in Australian taxation, compliance, and SME accounting.
In this role, you will be responsible for:

Preparing and reviewing Financial Statements, Income Tax Returns, Business Activity Statements (BAS), and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) for Australian SME clients.

Managing a diverse client portfolio, including Individuals, Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, and Sole Traders.

Ensuring all work complies with Australian taxation laws, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Maintaining complete and accurate workpapers, supporting schedules, and documentation.

Preparing and reviewing Division 7A (Div 7A) calculations and supporting workpapers.

Handling Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) computations and reconciliations.

Identifying complex tax issues and escalating matters requiring senior review or technical consultation.

Conducting tax research and assisting in resolving technical tax queries.

Assisting in preparing tax planning strategies and recommendations for clients.

Supporting the development of investment advisory and financial analysis reports.

Providing insights and recommendations to improve clients' tax efficiency and compliance position.

Managing multiple client files and ensuring all deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.

Recording accurate timesheets and monitoring productivity targets.

Taking detailed meeting notes, tracking action items, and coordinating follow-up tasks.

Communicating effectively with internal team members and stakeholders.

Identifying opportunities to improve workflows, templates, and internal processes.

Recommending best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency across the accounting team.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Senior Australian Tax Accountant within an Australian accounting firm.

Strong expertise in Australian taxation, compliance, and SME accounting.

Advanced knowledge of Division 7A (Div 7A), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT).

Experience preparing tax returns and financial statements for various entity structures.

Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks.

Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.

Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
Requirements

PA Australia, CA ANZ, or equivalent professional accounting qualification (Nice to Have).

Experience supporting Australian public practice firms in a remote or outsourced environment (Nice to Have).
