Role Description
As a Senior Mortgage Credit Analyst, you will take complete ownership of residential loan files once client documentation is returned—driving them through detailed assessment, broker-approved lender selection, lodgement, formal approval, and settlement.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between initial client qualification by the Principal Broker and final loan settlement. You will handle the heavy lifting of detailed serviceability calculations, policy research, file preparation, and operational progression, allowing the broker to focus on client relationships and advice. This position offers high operational autonomy within clear decision boundaries, making it ideal for a proactive credit professional who takes initiative, identifies gaps, and presents structured solutions.
Responsibilities
-
Document Review & Credit Assessment:
-
Review income, expense, liability, and supporting documentation to identify missing information, discrepancies, or potential credit issues.
-
Conduct detailed serviceability calculations using Quickli and individual lender calculators, verifying complex income streams and liability structures.
-
Formulate proposed loan structures aligned with client objectives while clearly detailing underlying assumptions and policy considerations.
-
Lender Research & Selection:
-
Research lender policies across panels to evaluate suitable options against client requirements, servicing capacity, pricing, fees, and product features.
-
Order property valuations and pricing requests using approved portal access; liaise directly with lender BDMs and credit teams to clarify policy eligibility.
-
Present justified lender shortlists and structural proposals to the Principal Broker, detailing key advantages, limitations, or outstanding considerations.
-
Compliance & Application Lodgement:
-
Prepare Best Interests Duty (BID) supporting notes, lender comparison rationale, credit proposal documents, and submission summaries.
-
Maintain precise client records and detailed file notes in Connective Mercury; construct complete, compliant applications in Apply Online (AOL).
-
Secure broker approval for selected lenders, structures, and documentation prior to formal application submission.
-
Approval & Settlement Management:
-
Track and manage applications post-lodgement through conditional approval, formal approval, and final settlement.
-
Coordinate directly with lenders, clients, and conveyancers to clear outstanding conditions and satisfy settlement requirements.
-
Provide clients with regular operational updates regarding file status and next steps while keeping Mercury tasks and milestones fully up to date.
-
Proactive File Ownership & Process Improvement:
-
Independently drive routine file progression, anticipating next steps without requiring prompting.
-
Deliver concise progress updates to the Principal Broker, highlighting blockers, upcoming deadlines, and required decisions.
-
Maintain operational checklists and document repeatable processes to continuously elevate file quality and turnaround times.
Qualifications
-
Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience supporting Australian residential mortgage broking, with demonstrated responsibility from initial assessment through to settlement.
-
Essential proficiency in Connective Mercury and Apply Online (AOL).
-
Proven track record in detailed serviceability assessment, policy research, and loan structuring (beyond standard application administration).
-
Direct experience drafting BID supporting rationale, credit proposals, and lender submission notes for broker review.
-
Strong document verification skills, including PAYG income assessment and straightforward self-employed scenario evaluation.
-
Exceptional written and spoken English with the confidence to communicate professionally with clients, lenders, and BDMs.
Preferred
-
Experience with Quickli serviceability software and a wide array of Australian lender-specific calculators.
-
Exposure to a referral-based broking environment handling steady monthly file flows (8–10 files/month).
What You’ll Bring
-
A self-starter mindset that acts on next steps independently and escalates blockers early alongside proposed solutions.
-
An analytical eye that catches document discrepancies, policy edge cases, and calculation errors before lodgement.
-
Clear understanding of decision boundaries—knowing when to execute independently versus when to seek Principal Broker sign-off.
-
Excellent organizational skills to keep multiple files moving concurrently while maintaining clean CRM records and timely client communication.
