[Hiring] Senior Controller @Basic Capital

Role Description

We are hiring our first Controller to own accounting, tax, and finance operations at Basic Capital. This individual will manage proprietary investments on our platform that are held through individual LLCs, specifically the annual accounting and tax requirements.

You will own accounting and tax for this portfolio:

• Books, reconciliations, annual partnership filings
• Monthly reporting sent to lenders and capital partners

You will also support the company’s own finances:

• Monthly close and budgeting
• Accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payments

This is a builder role. You will set up the processes, controls, and automation that let this work scale from thousands of entities to tens of thousands, working directly with our engineering and capital markets teams.

You will:

• Own accounting and administration for over 1,000 individual LLCs, including the monthly loan tape and servicing tape
• Prepare and file year-end tax returns and K-1s for every LLC
• Partner with engineering to automate accounting workflows using AI, and do deep data work to keep every entity reconciled
• Oversee corporate accounting and payments as the company grows
• Support corporate accounting and operations for Basic Capital: monthly close, budgeting and forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and payments
• Build the controls, policies, and audit readiness a growing financial company needs

Qualifications

• Experience with partnership or LLC accounting, including capital accounts, allocations, and K-1s
• Hands-on experience preparing partnership returns in UltraTax CS or similar professional tax software, such as CCH Axcess Tax, CCH ProSystem fx, Lacerte, or GoSystem Tax RS
• Controller-level experience, including monthly close, budgeting, AP/AR, and financial reporting
• Strong data skills, with comfort in SQL, advanced Excel, or both

Preferred Competencies

• Active CPA license
• Tax experience, ideally with partnerships, funds, or multi-entity structures
• Structured finance accounting experience (e.g., securitizations, loan tapes, SPVs, or warehouse facilities)
• Experience in lending, consumer finance, or fund administration
• Experience working with engineers to build or automate financial workflows
