Role Description

Active Minds is seeking an experienced, motivated and strategic Vice President of Finance and Administration to join its team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the VP of Finance and Administration will be a key member of the leadership team charged with oversight and execution of all financial processes and procedures, and strategically leading human resources across the organization.

  • Expand thought leadership and cultivate relationships
  • Provide team leadership/management
  • Work cross-functionally with the Operations Team and Active Minds departments
  • Drive innovation, strategic thinking, and execution of all Finance and HR strategic priorities
  • Ensure all members of the Active Minds team have the tools and resources they need

This role is responsible for:

  • Directly overseeing the Sr. Manager of People & Culture, Staff Accountant, and contracted bookkeeper
  • Working closely with the Director of Special Projects and Operations and Head of Digital Technology

Qualifications

  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, listening, presentation and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while participating as an effective and collaborative member of interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, work effectively, adjust to multiple demands and follow tasks through to completion
  • Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask
  • Superior management skills; mentoring and coaching experience for a team with diverse expertise
  • Effective tactical, strategic thinker and problem solver; self-reliant and results oriented

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or other certification in finance, accounting, or related field; CPA certification and/or MBA preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and FASB topics as applied to nonprofits
  • HR certification (e.g. PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP) is a plus
  • High level of financial and analytical skills and extensive knowledge of financial policies, practices, and nonprofit systems
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment, with at least 5 years of managerial experience
  • Proven experience in senior HR role
  • Deep knowledge of HR functions (talent management, recruitment, etc.)
  • Proven track record in planning, financial management and operational oversight
  • Strong interest in and commitment to the mission and goals of Active Minds
  • Must have Quickbooks “Desktop” experience; ERP and other accounting software experience a plus
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus
