Role Description

The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for performing a broad range of fiscal, budgetary and analytical duties for Audubon’s field offices in an assigned portfolio. They are primarily responsible for the preparation, review and control of the annual operating budget for each State Office, as well as the semi-annual forecasts. They are responsible for regular reporting for both internal and external stakeholders, variance analysis, and will interact with State leaders and office staff, as well as grant specialists, to facilitate financial planning and clarify/resolve financial issues.

  • Manage the financial matters of field programs and departments in the portfolio, including development and review of the operating and program budgets and reforecasts.
  • Variance reporting and reporting to external stakeholders including state boards.
  • Coordinate with leaders and staff in the portfolio, as well as finance department colleagues responsible for grant and accounting support.
  • Balance an understanding of complex financial, audit and budget guidelines with the unique business needs of the organization to assess and resolve fiscal issues.
  • Monitor, review and analyze budget performance and accounting reports.
  • Conduct revenue analysis and forecasting.
  • Research, analyze, evaluate, develop findings and make recommendations involving complex budget and financial management issues.
  • Perform high level, time-sensitive special projects and studies as assigned by leaders within the portfolio and the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis for State Programs.
  • Assist Development with the preparation of budgets for foundation and government grant proposals.
  • Prepare and distribute regular monthly reporting on financial performance and reserves.
  • Suggest reporting improvements as needed.
  • Travel infrequently as needed for team building and site visits.
  • Collaborate with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience in budget management/preparation in a nonprofit organization, working with diverse funding sources, including public funding.
  • Direct experience in nonprofit budgeting and variance reporting required, with experience tracking expenses in a decentralized organization preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of financial and budget systems, with a demonstrated ability to create, interpret and accurately represent new system-generated financial and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of Financial Edge, Prophix, and Salesforce software a plus.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and strong knowledge of other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong planning, problem solving, data collection/management, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to create, interpret and accurately represent financial reports and technical documents.
  • Excellent technical skills are a must.
  • Ability to perform financial and comparative analyses of budgetary documentation/data and make sound conclusions and recommendations.
