Role Description

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group).

• Title of Course: HIST 2P72 Modern Middle East
• Compensation:
  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour (Rate effective September 1, 2026).
  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour (Rate effective September 1, 2026).
  • In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
• Duties:
  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Non-classroom time including:
    • Preparation of seminar material.
    • Student consultation.
    • Marking or grading.
    • Examination proctoring.
    • Attending lectures.
    • Holding office hours.
    • Other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

• Must hold no less than a BA in Middle Eastern History or related discipline with a minimum 80% average.
• Must have background knowledge or course experience in Middle Eastern History.
• Evidence of successful previous university-level teaching assistant experience or equivalent.
• Demonstrated organizational and effective communication skills including:
  • The ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Being punctual in attending classes.
  • Meeting appropriate deadlines.
• Note: This course will be taught synchronously online.
