Role Description
The Success Coach is that consistent point of contact for students and families. The coach supports onboarding, monitors attendance and engagement, coordinates timely interventions, and helps students make progress in their courses and Climb Higher Projects. The role carries a caseload of approximately 125 students, reports to the MCOS School Director, and works closely with teachers and families. Occasional travel is required for student events and testing support.
Key Responsibilities

Onboarding and family connection:

Guide new and returning students and families through orientation, technology access, course schedules, and required onboarding tasks.

Maintain regular, personal contact with students and families. Serve as an accessible first point of contact, resolve routine barriers, and connect families with the appropriate school staff when specialized support is needed.

Conduct student check-ins and family conferences to review goals, progress, and concerns. Coordinate interpretation or translation support as needed.

Engagement and student success planning:

Review learning platform activity daily, identify missed time or emerging disengagement, and initiate timely outreach, including after three consecutive days without a login.

Record and maintain accurate contact, intervention, and progress records.

Partner with the School Director, teachers, families, and other staff to identify barriers to attendance, engagement, academic progress, or behavior; create and monitor student success plans and escalate persistent concerns.

Track caseload trends and report student needs and intervention progress as directed by the School Director.

Climb Higher Projects and school community:

Support school staff leading the quarterly Climb Higher Project cycle by helping students understand project options, expectations, rubrics, and milestones.

Check project pacing, help students address obstacles, prepare them to share their work, and assist with showcase logistics and family communication.

Help facilitate community gatherings, student events, and enrichment activities that build belonging in a remote school.
Qualifications

Required:
-
Bachelorβs degree in any field.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly with students and families.

Comfort managing a high volume of concurrent student relationships, with strong organization and follow-through.

Reliable internet access, a dedicated home workspace, and commitment to the MCOS mission and culture.

Preferred:
-
Background in education, counseling, youth development, family engagement, case management, or student support.

Familiarity with online learning platforms; experience with exceptional children or multilingual learners; or background in project-based or experiential learning.

North Carolina teaching license, valued but not required.
