Role Description

The Office of the Provost at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Specialist for the STEAM Technical Assistance Center. This role will be remote but will be responsible for school outreach/travel in the following WV counties: Wayne, Lincoln, Putnam, Cabell, Kanawha, Mason, Jackson, Roane, Clay, Calhoun, Gilmer, Braxton, Webster, and Pocahontas. Strong knowledge of grades 6–12 STEAM pedagogy, instructional technology, collaborative program development, professional learning, and partnership building is expected.

The STEAM Specialist will support the West Virginia Public Education Collaborative/WVU STEAM Technical Assistance Center in expanding and strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education across West Virginia middle and high schools. The position focuses on developing, coordinating, and implementing high-quality STEAM programs, instructional resources, professional learning, and technology initiatives that support students, educators, and school administrators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, science, mathematics, career technical education, or a related field of study.
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in:
  • Teaching experience in science, mathematics, career technical education or related field of study.
  • Experience writing, developing, and integrating STEAM lessons aligned to WV standards and policies, via in-person demonstrations, online platforms and/or through virtual showcases.
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Requirements

• Holds a valid West Virginia teaching certification in science, mathematics, or career technical education; or holds a valid West Virginia secondary teaching certification with demonstrated experience in classroom technology integration.
• Comprehensive knowledge of 6-12 STEAM pedagogy and current 6-12 STEAM transdisciplinary practices.
• Demonstrated experience in establishing and coordinating joint relationships with businesses and educational agencies to foster collaborative opportunities for training and/or to promote STEAM awareness and partnerships.
