Role Description

McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Senior Academic Designer who specializes in Social Studies, Grades 3-5. Senior Academic Designers are content and curriculum experts. They assemble high-quality content based on specific product requirements for programs and understand the solution design. They collaborate with the Academic Design Director and Academic Design Managers to help develop the solution design (both conceptualization and implementation). This is a project status position.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) role with an end date of 8/31/2027.

What you will be doing:

  • Plan and develop culturally responsive, relevant, and sustaining content (including learning objectives, content, activities, and instructional supports) for teacher and student materials β€” including print, digital, and media projects.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of elementary (PreK–5) pedagogy and social studies content, including history, geography, civics, and economics.
  • Produce accurate, error-free, high-quality products that meet curriculum standards and market requirements and display appropriate content, reading level, grammar, and style.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing of print and digital assets within a variety of authoring tools, digital platforms, and applications.
  • Communicate with fellow team members about project progress and develop solutions to address issues.
  • Correlate educational materials to national and state social studies standards and frameworks, including C3 Framework, NCSS standards, and state specific requirements.
  • Work closely with Academic Design Managers and Senior Manager to assemble high-quality digital and print content based on specific product requirements for programs and understand the solution design.

Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of elementary product development experience or 5 or more years of elementary classroom experience, preferably teaching social studies.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in elementary education, social studies education, history, or another relevant discipline.
  • Detail oriented and able to write and edit a variety of materials, both digital and print, in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate with fellow team members about project progress and develop solutions to address issues.
  • Ability to work closely with marketing, production, design, and manufacturing to ensure that market requirements, project schedules, and goals are met.
  • Ability to create, visualize, and lay out content for various delivery formats and classroom settings, including primary source integration, map-based activities, and inquiry-based learning experiences.
  • Knowledge and skills to create a robust print and digital learning experience aligned to social studies standards and market requirements and expectations.
  • Productive, with efficient work habits; able to prioritize, multitask, and exhibit flexibility.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Experience writing and editing social studies instructional materials for use in elementary classrooms strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with digital curriculum development, digital authoring tools, and content management systems preferred.

Benefits

  • The pay range for this position is between $62,000 - $75,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
