Role Description

The Library of Congress Internships (LOCI) program is a seasonal, 10- or 12-week paid internship program that enables undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience through applied learning and professional development opportunities that advance the academic and career pursuits of participants.

• This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.
• The Spring 2027 session of the Library of Congress Internships Program includes options for virtual, remote project work.
• Interns hired under this announcement will be expected to conduct work from their home location.
• Interns will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: copyright, preservation, reference, access standards, and information management.
• Assignments will span many professional fields at the Library, including collections support, communications, event planning, human capital, information technology, and research.
• Interns work with Library staff on mission-critical projects that utilize their existing skills.
• Interns are exposed to additional opportunities to expand their skills through special assignments, professional development training and workshops, mentoring, and other enrichment activities.
• Interns participate in a wide range of projects designed to challenge and strengthen the skills of emerging professionals.

Qualifications

• MUST be a U.S. citizen. Permanent residents are ineligible for consideration.
• MUST be a U.S. Citizen currently enrolled at time of application in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution of higher learning (community college, college, university, or tribal college) at the undergraduate level or graduate level, OR have graduated or will graduate between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.
• MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK REMOTELY FOR FULL TWELVE-WEEK PERIOD from February 8, 2027 through April 30, 2027.
• MUST be available to attend mandatory orientation on Monday, February 8, 2027. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• MUST be available to work a full-time schedule, Monday – Friday during the Library’s core business hours: 6:30 am – 6:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Requirements

• All projects require basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
• MUST be located in the U.S. or its territories for the entire duration of the internship.
• MUST be a first-time participant in the Library of Congress Internships Program.
• MUST be available to attend mandatory orientation on Monday, February 8, 2027. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• Appointment/retention is subject to a favorable evaluation of a personnel security/suitability investigation.
• Library of Congress employees are prohibited from using illegal drugs, including marijuana.

Education

• MUST be a U.S. Citizen currently enrolled at time of application in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution of higher learning (community college, college, university, or tribal college) at the undergraduate level or graduate level, OR have graduated or will graduate between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.
• Transcripts and/or registrar certification of enrollment documents are required to verify your eligibility for consideration.
• Failure to provide this documentation in your application will result in disqualification.
