Role Description
AUIB is seeking a dynamic and experienced Adjunct Faculty in Islamic Art and Archaeology to drive its mission of advancing interdisciplinary education and research in the art, architecture, archaeology, and material culture of the Near East and the Islamic world. In this pivotal role, the Adjunct Faculty in Islamic Art and Archaeology will:

Teach Introduction to Islamic Archaeology and Science and Technology of the Ancient Societies.

Teach other archaeology and anthropology courses across the program, including Introduction to Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology, Introduction to Heritage Studies, and Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, and possibly Introduction to Sociology as suited to qualifications.

Regularly participate in departmental meetings to stay updated on policies and developments.

Assist faculty in creating and updating course materials and curricula.

Understand and follow the university's teaching guidelines, regulations, and policies.

Uphold ethical standards and create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Engage in research projects in the field and publish regularly.

Assist in departmental assignments such as advising, registration, seminars, and professional development assignments.
Qualifications

Understanding of American Higher Education: Familiarity with the structure and processes of the American university system.

Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Time Management and Collaboration: Ability to manage time effectively and work well with others.

Student Engagement: Skill in engaging and supervising students.

Effective Teaching: Capable of simplifying complex ideas, creating engaging lectures, and fostering active learning.
Requirements

Required Education: PhD Preferred. M.A./Ph.D. in Archaeology, Art History, Anthropology, or a closely related field, with demonstrated ability to teach Islamic art, architecture, and archaeology and the history of science and technology in ancient societies.

Years of Relevant Experience: A minimum of one year of teaching experience.

Specific Skills or Expertise: Work experience in the Middle East/or study abroad in any of the regional programs.

Additional Certifications: Ability to teach introductory sociology an asset.
